Happy New Year to everyone, I am sure I am not the first to say good riddance to 2020 in the hope that 2021 can see a return to some form of normality, but for the time being the most important thing is that everyone stays safe whilst the vaccine is rolled out.
For us as a football club 2021 is going to be year of evolution rather than revolution as we look to develop ideas and find the best possible way to turn them into actions. You will have seen recently that Tina Reading has stood down from the Board, I would like to re-iterate my thanks to Tina for all she has done for the club as a Director and wish her well for the future. I know she will continue to be a supporter on the terrace and to continue promoting the club in a good light in our community.
As a Board we have taken the decision not to look to replace Tina with another Director of the club but will instead look to evolve the Board with non-directors that will bring their own expertise to the table and help in our pro-active approach for getting things done. There has been much talking over the past year and many ideas forthcoming, it is important that we now take the right steps to have a team in place to take those ideas forward and make them flourish.
Over the coming weeks, as well as working with the footballing staff to plan and manage whatever might happen with the remainder of this current season, we will be announcing these new additions to the Board that will see the club evolve in such a way as to ease some of the burden that always seems to fall onto the same shoulders whilst also bringing fresh thoughts, expertise and energy to the club that I hope will bring visible benefits to us all.
We need to look to develop a Board that is truly representative of the entire club, and that should include the youth section and the Ladies set-up as well as assisting in ensuring that fans are represented at board level, ideally through the Supporters’ Trust. I am aware that such ambition has been expressed before and for varies reasons as a club we seem to have historically taken one step forward followed by two steps back as we look to fulfil the ‘OneClubCheshamUnited’ notion that is so boldly displayed on the gates down at The Meadow. However, after what we have all been through in 2020, and the tremendous financial, moral and mental support we have all shown to each other, I do believe that now is the time, with the right people on board, that we can make this happen.
We definitely look to be heading into another difficult period of this pandemic and it is very difficult to try to make any forecast as to when we might start playing football again, but I will continue to keep you updated of developments around the club with regular communications.
Thank you for your support,
Stay Safe – Stay Well
Peter Brown
