Chesham United FC

This weekend we get a double dose of live football and an extra day off work, what more could you ask for?

It’s a confusing time for notes as I have already had to write my notes for Monday’s matchday programme before I write these notes which has left me completely muddled as to what day of the week it is! However, I am reliably informed that today is Saturday, and we are back on the road again with a trip to the South coast to face Gosport Borough in another league encounter. This promises to be another very tight affair and will be an excellent gauge of where we are at in terms of competitiveness for the season.

On Bank Holiday Monday we host Kings Langley in a local derby that I am really looking forward to, hopefully we will have a good crowd for this one and an entertaining game of football. I know that after so long without having a crowd behind them the players really appreciate your support – I think we all saw that with the celebrations as we came back from a goal down to beat Merthyr with three late goals last weekend!

As I say, hopefully a good crowd on Bank Holiday Monday, why not leave your car behind and enjoy a couple of drinks in the clubhouse with your friends? We now have an excellent array of soft and alcoholic drinks, and you are guaranteed a warm welcome from all. If you do choose to drive to the game, I would like to remind you that, although it is not signposted like much of the other parking spaces up at the site, the area in front of the gym is parking for gym users only so it would be appreciated if you could avoid parking in these spaces. Throughout the week there often seems to be a bit of a free for all when it comes to parking, but on matchdays, or big occasions for any of the tenants, it is expected that everyone parks respectably.

If you are unable to make the game at all on Monday, you can still listen in to the action as we are delighted to welcome back CW Sport Radio who will be live broadcasting from The Meadow which you can follow at www.cwsportradio.com and follow on Twitter at @MottysMic.

This week we also discovered our opponents for our first FA Cup game of the season, and we have been drawn away from home at nearby Uxbridge. We have met Uxbridge three times before in the FA Cup, twice away and once at home, and we have not won any of them! That said, the last of these was back in 1949 so I am not sure how much we can read into that as a form guide!

Off the field we are planning to push ahead with plans for a new outside bar within the ground, in the bottom corner of the Cricket Ground End where we are looking to convert the shed with the Exit Sign on it into a smart new outside facility that I hope will benefit supporters. We have spoken to the Supporters’ Trust about potentially helping to fund the project, but I think it is now looking like something we will end up looking to fund in other ways. We do also want to come up with an appropriate name for the new outside bar, any suggestions, please email me at chairman@cheshamunited.co.uk – I’m sure we can come up with a prize for the winning entry.

In terms of personnel, our new kitman has left before he even arrived, so I will be the one washing all the kit over the Bank Holiday weekend, needless-to-say I would love to hear from anyone who would like to take on this role and become an integral part of the matchday team.

Thank you for your support, I look forward to seeing you on the terraces over the weekend.
