Chesham United FC

Slightly shorter notes this week, not because it has been a quiet week, quite the opposite, it’s been so busy I have started to run out of time to get things done!

On the field we have continued to evolve as a team and we are now starting to see the benefits of early season patience and belief with four more excellent points picked up this week. A trip to Poole is never easy and we were delighted to come away with a clean sheet and a 0-0 draw, this was followed up on Tuesday night with a very convincing 3-0 win over Hendon, a result that sees us very much rooted as a top half of the table team now.

More good news this week with the news that we have re-signed Jeanmal Prosper after a break away from the game, welcome back Jammers!! And we have extended the loan spell of Kylian Kouassi from Sutton United until the end of January. Kylian has picked up two Man of the Match awards in his short time at The Meadow and scored twice since he arrived at the end of October. We would like to thank Sutton United for their support with this excellent loan arrangement.

This week also saw the publication of the Independent Fan Led Review of Football Governance led by MP Tracey Crouch, the lengthy review outlines a number of proposals to reform football in England and protect clubs up and down the pyramid, recognising that there is so much more to the beautiful game than just the Premiership and Championship, we fully support the proposals, but the real challenge is going to be to turn the ideas into actions for the good of our game.

I have said before that football is like no other business, in any other industry hundreds of clubs would simply be closed down because the financial business model simply does not work. Even many of the top clubs run at losses, but football is more than just a business, it is such an important part of so many people’s lives and is a key part of communities up and down the country, anything we can do to protect them should be supported.

On that subject, we continue to wait patiently, albeit slightly frustrated at the length of time it is taking for Buckinghamshire Council to provide any feedback on our Pre-Planning Application for the move to a new ground, these were sent back in early August, and prior to that in early May there was another application put in for the land at our current The Meadow. Obviously until we get this feedback and approval we are unable to make any progress with our objective of moving to new facilities that will make the club more self-sufficient as well as much more successfully being able to support the hundreds of boys, girls, men and women that play for Chesham, United, as well as the community at large.

We hope to announce details of our next Sportsman’s Dinner very shortly, we have narrowed the date down to either the 7th or 21st April, full details to follow very shortly.

This Saturday we make the short trip to Beaconsfield for a league game whilst our Ladies have their huge FA Cup Second Round match against Kent Football United in Dartford on Sunday – Good luck to all teams representing our club this weekend,

Thank you as always for your support, it is appreciated.
