Chesham United Football Club is saddened to learn that Life Vice President and stalwart of the club, John Pearce passed away on Sunday 3rd February.
John and his wife Audrey have been associated with the club for longer than any of us can remember. In fact his Father, Frank, was Treasurer, and his Father-in-Law, Sid Brandon, Chairman, of the Supporters’ Club back in 1968 when Chesham United famously made it to Wembley in the FA Amateur Cup. Incredibly, back in those days there was in fact a waiting list to serve on the Supporters’ Club committee! Many supporters will also remember John serving warm teas and coffees in the Tea Bar under The Popular Stand for many years during the 1980’s and 1990’s.
Former Chairman, Alan Calder, commented, “It is very sad to hear the news, John was one of those key characters at the club who was fundamental to the likes of myself wanting to get involved and give something back to the club. As a young kid he was one of the more ‘responsible adults’ that would always keep an eye out for me on away trips, and all the way through my days involved in the Supporters’ Club, and as a Director of the Football Club he and Audrey were never anything other than 100% supportive of Chesham United – He will be missed greatly, and very fondly remembered.”
Current Chairman Brian McCarthy added: “The thoughts of everyone at the club are with John’s family at this time, although not able to be a regular at games in recent years the work that John put into the club and in particular establishing a strong supporter community will be a much cherished legacy. I know a number of people at the club have already enquired about funeral arrangements, as soon as we have these details we will let everyone know.”
