The Club are very saddened to hear of the passing of Ron Fruen who died aged 74 on Friday 23rd April after a long illness.

Ron played for Chesham United in the FA Amateur Cup Final at Wembley in 1968 and was a major influence in the cup run scoring 9 goals in the competition that season. Ron signed from Walton & Hersham in September 1967 and scored on his debut in the Preliminary Round tie in the 2-0 away victory at Hemel Hempstead Town which set the club on their way on the run to the Final. His goal against highly rated Wealdstone in the semi final at Craven Cottage was arguably the most high profiled that he scored the club. However, his equaliser in the 85th minute at Soham United in the 4th Qualifying Round saved Chesham from the ignominy of an embarrassing defeat against much less fancied opponents.

Ron began his football career with his local village team, Englefield Green and also played for Southall, Hayes and Leatherhead. In total he made 48 appearances for Chesham United and scored 13 goals in all competitions.

Our thoughts and condolences go out to his daughter & family at this sad time.
