Chesham United Man of the Match: Billy Adcock
Chesham secured their fourth win in five games and only goal difference keeps them in the relegation zone. Chesham took some time to get into the game, but with the wind in their favour in the second half they dominated and were good value for their win. Chesham made three changes with Jeanmal Prosper making his first start since rejoining the club, Bradley Clayton making his first start for nine games after injury and new signing Billy Adcock making his debut after signing from Potters Bar Town the day before.
There was a strong wind blowing straight down the ground and the visitors played with the advantage in the first half. Chesham conceded a fifth-minute goal for the second game running, when Stuart Fleetwood’s long-range effort found the far top corner of the net giving Ben Goode no chance. However that was to be their last effort on goal until the dying minutes as Chesham began to fight their way back into the game. Dave Pearce cut in from the left to fire in a shot but keeper Will Henry was able to save comfortably, then shortly afterwards a Pearce corner came to Billy Adcock who attempted to turn the ball goalwards but mishit and the danger was cleared. Chesham were starting to click but failed to create any chances until the 25th minute, when some fine work by Bradley Clayton on the right led to a pinpoint cross that Jefferson Louis headed into the top corner of the net. Towards the end of a quiet half Luke Warner-Eley broke forward and found Jefferson Louis, whose shot on the turn flew just past the far post.
Chesham had the wind in their favour in the second half and used it to take complete control of the game. Dave Pearce set up to Jefferson Louis who slipped the ball past the advancing keeper but Matt Williams got back to clear off the line. Jeanmal Prosper then broke forward and shot but keeper Will Henry dived to punch the ball away, then Eoin Casey set up Dave Pearce whose shot was deflected over. Just after the hour mark a Dave Pearce corner was cleared, but Bradley Clayton fired the ball back in and Kieran Murphy glanced a header just inside the far post. Chesham went after more goals and Jefferson Louis headed a Jeanmal Prosper cross against the post, then Dave Pearce and Jefferson Louis both had efforts blocked in a goalmouth scramble. Good work by Eoin Casey set up Bradley Clayton but Henry made another sharp save, then Bradley Clayton crossed to Dave Pearce who lifted his shot just over the bar. On 75 minutes Chesham wrapped up the points when another Dave Pearce corner was partly cleared, Will Henry saved from Billy Adcock but Eoin Casey tapped in the loose ball from close range. Late in the game Ben Goode parried a fierce drive from Conor McDonagh, but Swindon never looked like mounting a comeback. Deep into stoppage time Luke Warner-Eley broke forward and set up Ryan Blake whose shot was tipped over the bar by Henry.
