Chesham United Man of the Match: Jefferson Louis
Chesham cruised to a comfortable win over bottom club Staines. After scoring six times in the first half Chesham eased off in the second, until Jefferson Louis completed his hat-trick in the last minute. The Chesham team had an unfamiliar look to it with Charlie Taylor making his debut in goal, Ryan Blake at right back and Eoin Casey in the centre of defence with Lewis Rolfe in midfield in place of the suspended Adam Martin. The visitors had long since been relegated and came into the game with a goal difference of minus 101, and it was not hard to see why.
In the fourth minute Eoin Casey had a free header which keeper Alex Lazurca stretched to save, and two minutes later Jefferson Louis opened the scoring with a shot on the turn into the roof of the net following good work by Ronny Mfinda and Matt Sinclair. Soon afterwards a Matt Sinclair shot took a slight deflection but Lazurca saved to his left, but the keeper could do nothing about Luke Heneghan’s low shot just inside the post which doubled Chesham’s lead on 10 minutes. Five minutes later Jefferson Louis headed a Luke Heneghan corner back across goal and Eoin Casey bundled the ball over the line to make it 3-0. Still Chesham poured forward and Mack Miskin hesitated over a long through ball, which let in Luke Heneghan but Lazurca blocked the resulting shot and Jefferson Louis headed wide when the ball was crossed back in. However on 20 minutes Lewis Rolfe scored Chesham’s fourth with a 30-yarder into the top corner. Lazurca then did well to save from Bradley Clayton, and tipped a shot from Jefferson Louis round the post. However the resulting corner was taken short, Bradley Clayton crossed and the unmarked Eoin Casey headed in to make it 5-0. Ryan Blake then got to the by-line and pulled the ball back but Lewis Rolfe missed his kick from the edge of the six-yard box. On 33 minutes Jefferson Louis headed in a Luke Heneghan corner for Chesham’s sixth. There was still time for Bradley Clayton to shoot straight at Lazurca from a dangerous position, then Staines gave the ball away near their own area but Lazurca denied Jefferson Louis at the expense of another corner. Luke Heneghan’s kick again found Eoin Casey but the ball came off a defender and went over, then Bradley Clayton again broke clear but shot straight at Lazurca.
Dave Pearce came on at half-time in place of Ronny Mfinda, who was injured following a challenge that earned a booking for Channing Campbell-Young. Pearce’s early free kick was turned round the post by Lazurca who also tipped away a shot from Bradley Clayton, while a long-range effort from Luke Heneghan flew just over and Matt Sinclair shot just over when set up by Jefferson Louis. On the hour Charlie Taylor was called into serious action for the first time, coming out to block a shot from Andrew Juett. Unsurprisingly in such a one-sided game there was little to enthuse about late on. For Chesham Ryan Blake pulled the ball back from the by-line but Dave Pearce could only head over the bar, then at the other end Che Krabbendam broke forward only to shoot straight at Taylor. Ryan Blake then had a shot beaten away by Lazurca and Luke Heneghan had a shot that was deflected wide. In the last minute of normal time Jefferson Louis cut in from the left and fired in a shot that dipped into the net just under the bar to complete his hat-trick.
