Chesham United Man of the Match: Zak Joseph

Chesham have now taken 34 points from 12 home league games this season after this comfortable success over struggling Beaconsfield. With a demanding schedule coming up the team was reshuffled again with five changes from the league cup win in midweek, which meant that Ben Goode is the only player to have started in all the last three matches.  Chesham had the wind in their favour in the first half, but it was not a major factor in the outcome as they largely kept the ball on the ground.

Chesham took control from the start and in the ninth minute Zak Joseph set up Bradley Clayton whose shot hit the legs of keeper Myles Bowman and went out for a corner.  Former Chesham defender Nathan Webb was injured in defending the move and was replaced by James Taylor.  Chesham continued to press and Bowman dived to his right to push away a shot from Zak Joseph.  Bradley Clayton tried an overhead kick from Dave Pearce’s cross but the ball hit a defender and went out for a corner, then Zak Joseph played a one-two with Romario Hart and broke clear but Bowman came out to block the resulting shot.  Just after the half-hour mark Chesham broke through when Dave Pearce set up Zak Joseph who was denied by the visitors’ defence, but the ball ran loose and Pearce found the net with a low drive which came off Luke Neville who slid in to try to block.  Two minutes later Beaconsfield came close for the only time in the game, when Charlie Losasso seized on a stray pass and shot past Ben Goode but also past the far post.  However Chesham resumed control and Zak Joseph shot just past the post from Dave Pearce’s pass.

Beaconsfield brought on an extra striker at half-time and controlled the early stages of the second half with the wind in their favour.  However they failed to create a single chance and Chesham made the game safe with a second goal on 65 minutes.  A move down the left involving Zak Joseph and Romario Hart enabled Dave Pearce to square the ball to Bradley Clayton, and his shot eventually landed in the net despite Bowman’s efforts to keep it out. The goal effectively killed the game as both sides played out time.  Chesham sub Dernell Wynter shot into the side netting, then at the other end Charlie Losasso’s shot was deflected for a corner.  Chesham brought on Eoin Casey late on and two minutes later he won the ball inside the visitors’ half, ran forward and Zak Joseph set up Bradley Clayton who shot low past Bowman for Chesham’s third.
