Chesham United Man of the Match: Zak Joseph
Chesham kept up the pressure on the league leaders with a comfortable win at Blackfield & Langley. After taking an early lead Chesham dominated the opening half and added a second before half-time, which enabled them to cruise through the second half in relative comfort. There were three changes to the team that drew with Taunton last Saturday – Kieran Murphy, Eoin Casey and Dernell Wynter replacing Mark Kirby, Dave Pearce and Bradley Clayton who were all on the bench.
On a fine winter’s afternoon Chesham started well, although the home team had the first moment of note when Sam Griffin headed over from Shaquille Gwengwe’s long cross. However in the next minute Chesham took the lead, when Eoin Casey laid off Billy Adcock’s pass into the path of Karl Oliyide who netted with a low drive from just inside he penalty area. Shortly afterwards Zak Joseph forced home keeper Lewis Noice to dive to his left to turn away a 25-yard drive. Chesham remained in control of the game, and a neat corner routine saw Billy Adcock’s kick dummied by Steve Brown and Zak Joseph fired in a shot that produced another fine reaction save from Noice. Just after the half-hour Zak Joseph had the ball in the home penalty area when he was tripped by Devane Bongou, who also conceded a penalty in the return fixture at the Meadow. Karl Oliyide took the kick and found the net although Noice got a hand to it. Chesham continued in command of the game, although Blackfield & Langley forced a couple of corners which were well dealt with by Ben Goode.
Early in the second half Goode made his only real save of the afternoon, when Hisham Kasimu fired in a shot from wide on the home right that was straight at the Chesham keeper. The second half was more even than the first, but the home side never threatened to get back into the game. Midway through the half a neat move between Jeanmal Prosper and Dernell Wynter ended with Wynter shooting for the top corner but Noice tipped over. Bradley Clayton then fired well over from just inside the area, then a left-footed drive from Clayton was tipped round the post by Noice. The game drifted to its conclusion, although the home side had one further effort when Sam Griffin shot powerfully but a couple of yards wide of the post. Late in the game Zak Joseph cut in from the left and shot, but Noice dived to his right to save.
