Last weekend’s social media boycott coincided with the one year anniversary of Peter Brown taking over as Chairman of Chesham United Football Club, a milestone that the club did not want to pass unacknowledged.
“In what has been an unprecedented twelve months for non-league football, behind the scenes our club has made massive strides forward” revealed Vice-Chairman, Mike Dragisic, “since taking over as chairman, Peter has brought some clear direction to the club, instrumental in creating the vision of a fully United, community club playing at a new ground with some of the best facilities in the area. This is the vision we now focus on as a Board, and we are 100% determined to make that vision become a reality.
It is not just planning for the future where Peter has made a difference, during the pandemic he has been like a dog with a bone when it comes to applying for grants, seeking out every opportunity to obtain the finances needed to get us through the period of not playing football. This has been hugely successful and enables us to look forward to the new season with a realistic goal of being in the promotion mix by the end of the season.
However, it is not just about the Directors at the club” continues Mike, “we now have monthly management meetings with a new team of pro-active individuals that share the vision of the club, representative of all sectors of the club including the Ladies, Youth and Supporters’ Trust. It is early days for this, but we are already seeing the benefits of this with much better communication within the club.
As a Board we are all very excited about the coming months, having survived everything thrown at us by Covid-19 we are now looking forward. The clubhouse is under new management with ambitious new plans to increase income and our community involvement and we are also in talks with new businesses as we look to increase sponsorship at the club – All of this is being driven by the Chairman, and his passion and influence is bringing more and more people along on the journey.
On behalf of everyone at the club, thank you Peter for everything achieved in the first year; although I am sure this is just the beginning.”
