Each Friday I normally reference a game we have coming up at the weekend and hope that a few more people will come along to The Meadow and give the team their support. This week I am going to go more Lord Kitchener in referencing tomorrow’s huge game against Truro City – YOUR TOWN NEEDS YOU!

We have had a fantastic start to the season, comfortably sitting third in the table, seven points ahead of fourth placed Poole, but seven points behind second-placed Truro City – who are still unbeaten in this league campaign. Your support can make a big difference in helping us to break that run of theirs. We have already won away at top of the table Weston-super-Mare and the Truro scalp would really put us up there as title contenders. Having the World Cup on is great from the comfort of your armchair, but you can’t beat live football and tomorrow (Saturday) will be a cracker.

Last weekend was another milestone moment with a dramatic late win away at Gosport Borough, the 3-2 win being our first there under Michael and James’ management after several attempts, another sign that we have made large strides forward since last season. In recent weeks we have seen many dramatic injury-time goals (so don’t leave early), if our referees start adopting the FIFA World Cup timekeeping guidance then we may well end up seeing 3 or 4 goals in injury-time in the coming matches!

Away from the pitch we had a very good Board and Management committee meeting this week. The arrival of new directors has enabled us to focus on looking forward and having a vision rather than just coping with the day to day. Fresh faces have come into the boardroom with an absolute determination to 1) increase commercial income and 2) complete the long-term goal of uniting all sections of the club and creating a true One Club feeling.

I know this has been a topic of discussion for years, decades even, but with Chris, Alex and Mike now on board, there is a real belief that we can achieve that. Mike has already started reaching out to the youth, ladies and Supporters Trust to understand any issues or challenges with a view to putting in place a structure and plan that will achieve that ultimate goal. I truly believe this is our best chance ever of doing that.

We have also today launched our Half Season Ticket offering, these tickets are now available to purchase AT cheshamunited.co.uk/tickets and will be valid from the Boxing Day game vs Hayes & Yeading. At just £100 for 11 games as an adult, saving you the equivalent of just a little bit under 3 games at the gate price, we think these are great value and a perfect chance to get your tickets sorted for what we hope will be an exciting and prosperous run-in on the field for the club. Concessions tickets are available for £85 and U18s also available at just £20 (less than £2 per game)

We are looking at enhancing our social media presence across multiple platforms, I had a meeting this week with someone who is in the football and social media industry who is moving to Chesham shortly and wanting to get involved with his new local football club – how fantastic is that?  Our new website is also reaching phase one completion and I hope we are able to go live with this very shortly and as part of our structuring One Club over the coming weeks we will be liaising with everyone involved in our various marketing channels to create an understanding of who does what and when so that we can move forward as a team, hopefully emulating the current success of the team on the pitch.

We are looking for some additional volunteers to support us with the turnstiles & stewarding, especially over the next few months as some of our regular volunteers are out of action for various reasons. If you are able to spare some time, then please get in touch with the club either by emailing secretary@cheshamunited.co.uk or by making yourself known to a board member or steward at tomorrow’s game, your support would be much appreciated.

A few things to look out for in the new year.  The Players Benevolent Fund Race Night is now going to be in February, with a Golf Day to follow in June and another charity day on 3rd June with the simply marvellous Treorchy Male Choir and our own local male voice choir, Chess Valley, at St Mary’s Church – ticket prices and online sales will be available mid-January 2023. We are restricted to 270 tickets so get you tickets early for this fabulous night raising funds for our club charity Bucks Mind.

Thank you as alway for your support and remember, Chesham United v Truro City. Tomorrow. 3pm. Tickets available at the gate.

See you then.
