This season’s awards took place on the 23rd April after our last game of the season a 5-0 win over Wimborne Town. First of all, thank you to everyone that attended and stayed for a chat with the players and management who have done a fantastic job over the season.

We started off with Chairman Peter Brown thanking everyone for attending, and to all the supporters, volunteers, players, management and the rest of the board for making the season another fantastic season even though we fell just short of that final play off spot. It was a fantastic run towards the end of the season and at one stage on the last day the result at Weston was in our favour but it wasn’t to be overall.

The evening then moved onto the awards presentation with a total of 10 awards presented, starting with the first set of playing awards.

  • Young Player of the Season – Jaden Thompson-Brissett
  • Top Goalscorer’s – Bradley Clayton (26 goals in 42 games all competitions)
  • Bucks Examiner Player of the Season – Zak Joseph (8 MoMs during the season)

The Volunteer and Supporter of the Season awards follow the first set of playing awards, these awards are to reward the individuals who complete the unsung tasks at the club or go above and beyond to follow the Generals to keep the club running over the course of a long season.

  • Volunteer of the Season (sponsored by Asprey Harris) – Charlie Wright
  • Supporter of the Season (sponsored by First for Trophies) – Stuart McGowan

The Supporters Trust Player of the Season award this year had over 150 voters. Everyone was asked to order their top 3 players of the season. Points are then awards in reverse order (1st place = 3 points, 2nd place = 2 points and 3rd place = 1 point).

  • Supporters Trust Player of the Season – Bradley Clayton
  • 2nd Place – Zak Joseph
  • 3rd Place – Mark Kirby

The final awards for the season were awarded by the managers and votes for them come from among the dressing room and coaching staff. Both players are talented and hard working members of the dressing room and winning these particular awards is no mean feat with a strong squad.

  • Player’s Player of the Season – Bradley Clayton
  • Manager’s Player of the Season – Mark Kirby

A big thank you to everyone that came, the club are looking forward to next season as much as the supporters and we hope to have news from the League and the FA in the next few weeks on next season’s league allocations and the fixtures/start dates.

This season’s awards took place on a record setting date -11th July, in fact in any other year we’d have been back for pre-season games by now but this year is like no other. First of all, thank you to everyone that attended, respected the social distancing protocols in place at the Chess Suite and stayed for a chat with the players and management who have done a fantastic job over the season.

We started off with recently appointed Chairman Peter Brown thanking everyone for attending, and to all the supporters, volunteers, players, management and the rest of the board for making last season a success. We were in a fantastic position before the season was brought to a premature end and as a club were looking forward to seeing how the season played out. Peter also thanked the former Chairman Brian McCarthy who became the club’s President during the lockdown for his efforts and for the future as President.

Next up were JD & Muzza who took us through the season from their perspective, as well as how the last few months have gone with the lockdown and how not having a starting date for this season makes it difficult to plan but they have been speaking with the players about the 2020/21 season.

The afternoon then moved onto the awards presentation with a total of 10 awards presented

  • Young Player of the Season – Josh Smith

Josh is the Academy captain, where he had a fantastic season but Josh also made his first team debut this season at 16 years of age in the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup at Newport Pagnell Town, the first of the new Chesham United academy squad to make a first team appearance for the club.

  • Top Goalscorer’s – Dave Pearce & Karl Oliyide

Dave & Karl finished tied for the season with 15 goals each in all competitions, a tight race which would have been decided over the run-in of the season. Was good to see a number of the squad make double-figures in the goal tally, the sign of a great team season.

  • Bucks Examiner Player of the Season – Zak Joseph

This award is decided based on the number of Man of the Match awards each player receives through the season, Zak received 6 Man of the Match awards. Narrowly beating Bradley Clayton with 5 MoM’s and Adam Martin, Karl Oliyide and Dave Pearce tied with 4 each for 3rd place.

The Volunteer and Supporter of the Season awards followed the end of the first set of playing awards, these awards are to reward the individuals who complete the unsung tasks at the club or go above and beyond to follow the Generals to keep the club running over the course of a long season.

  • Volunteer of the Season (sponsored by Asprey Harris) – Ray Trafford
  • Supporter of the Season (sponsored by First for Trophies) – Gavin Jones

The Supporters Trust Player of the Season award was an extremely tight contest, with over 150 voters. Everyone was asked to order their top 3 players of the season. Points are then awards in reverse order (1st place = 3 points, 2nd place = 2 points and 3rd place = 1 point).

  • Supporters Trust Player of the Season- Jeanmal Prosper
  • 2nd Place – Dave Pearce
  • 3rd Place – Bradley Clayton

The final awards for the season were awarded by the managers after much debate and discussion among the dressing room and coaching staff. Both players are talented and hard working members of the dressing room and winning these particular awards is no mean feat in a successful season with a strong squad.

  • Player’s Player of the Season – Jeanmal Prosper
  • Manager’s Player of the Season – Eoin Casey

A big thank you to everyone that came, the club are looking forward to next season as much as the supporters and we hope to have news from the League and the FA in the next few weeks following the latest guidelines issued by DCMS and the government.

Chesham United FC would like to give a special thank you to supporters that have been joining the Chairman and fellow Directors at The Meadow carrying out repairs, cleaning-up and painting – we are all practicing social distancing, but it is also great to be in touch with fellow supporters once again.

The internal perimeter fence has now all been painted and is looking fantastic; it certainly helps to make our important sponsors’ advertising boards stand out better. As well as supporters, it was heartening to see the support of another local business who sent down two members of their team for two days this week to help out. So always remember, if ever you want a new fence, driveway or patio please consider our sponsors like Rob Keen and his company for your job; being part of the Chesham United Family is all about helping and supporting each other, thank you once again for the support.

Anyone interested in joining the work parties at The Meadow, please contact the Chairman for further details at Chairman@cheshamunited.co.uk.

A message on behalf of Chesham United Supporters Trust:

Hello everyone,

I hope that each and every member of our “General’s Family” is keeping safe and well and looking after one other during these difficult times. With patience and adherence to the government guidance, we will eventually come through this crisis and whenever normal life resumes we will have a greater need than ever for the many social and sporting events we have long taken for granted.

Chesham United FC, along with many other grassroots clubs, is now suffering from the sudden and unexpected lack of the income that is so vital to a non-leagues club’s survival and it is a real possibility that many much loved clubs may fail to emerge from these unprecedented times untouched by events.

However, with the help and support of everyone who loves this club Chesham United can and will be here on the other side of the crisis! We are ALL OneClubChesham United and together we can not only help our club survive but also go on to thrive in the future.

Our fan-base is one that makes us extremely proud at Chesham United, and we are extremely appreciative of all the donations we have received so far. The support we have received since the lockdown, echoes the fantastic support the club and team has received all season, and it most certainly doesn’t go unnoticed.

The Supporters Club is setting up an appeal designed to support not only the immediate needs of the club through the unknowns ahead but also to provide financial assistance to the manager to kick start the new season, as and when it commences.

If anyone is able to contribute even a small amount it would be gratefully received.

Thank you for your valued support and as always Come on You Generals.

Keep safe and well
