Recap
Chesham cruised to a comfortable win in this FA Cup third qualifying round replay. Chesham took control of the game from the start, took an early lead and by the hour mark were four goals to the good. Chesham made five changes to the starting eleven after last Saturday’s defeat by Bath – Alex Lafleur, Eoin Casey, Steve Brown, Jack Connors and Joe Grant came in for Avan Jones, Jack Cawley, Connor Stevens, Ashley Lodge and Omar Rowe.
Chesham came close in the second minute, when Alex Lafleur crossed low from the left and the ball came to Lewis Rolfe whose shot bounced away off the legs of keeper Lewis Clayton. Four minutes later Jack Connors scored his fist goal for the club in his 62nd appearance, with a low drive from 25 yards that flew past Clayton into the bottom corner of the net. Chesham continued to press and Mitchell Weiss had a shot deflected over for a corner, and Joe Grant ran at the visiting defence and shot just wide. On 23 minutes Chesham added a second when Mitchell Weiss crossed from the left, Nathan Minhas had a shot that was blocked and Lewis Rolfe prodded the loose ball over the line. It was still all Chesham and Nathan Minhas set up T’Sharne Gallimore whose shot was parried by Clayton, then Joe Grant crossed from the by-line on the right and set up Nathan Minhas whose shot clipped the top of the bar. The visitors had their only noteworthy attack of the half on 39 minutes, but Joe Selman headed well over from Ethan Dunbar’s cross. However Chesham resumed control and Alex Lafleur had a shot blocked by Clayton, then a Nathan Minhas shot took a deflection and went behind for a corner, In stoppage time Steve Brown glanced a header towards goal from a Jack Connors corner but Clayton stretched to tip the ball over the bar.
Chesham made a slow start to the second half and on 55 minutes Ben Goode was called into serious action for the only time, diving to his right to turn away Ross Langworthy’s shot from the edge of the area. However normal service was resumed four minutes later. Joe Grant ran at the defence and shot from the left, Clayton parried but the ball fell to Lewis Rolfe who tapped it in. Three minutes later it was 4-0, when a Jack Connors corner was cleared and T’Sharne Gallimore shot into the top corner of the net for only his second goal in 106 appearances for the club. It was still all Chesham and T’Sharne Gallimore both had shots blocked after Clayton gave the ball away, then Clayton pushed away an Alex Lafleur shot at the expense of another corner. The later stages of the game saw both sides going through the motions, although Chesham again came close when Callum Adebiyi headed down a Jack Connors corner and Mitchell Weiss hooked the ball over the bar. Late in the game a mazy run from sub Omar Rowe set up Joe Grant who hooked over the bar from inside the area.
