Recap
After last Tuesday’s defeat Chesham got back to winning ways against the league’s bottom club. This was not a vintage Chesham performance but they always had the edge even if the final margin was slightly flattering. There were four changes to the starting eleven – Jack Cawley, Jack Connors, Zak Joseph and Joe Grant came in for Lewis Rolfe, Callum Adebiyi, Matt Lench and Bradley Clayton.
Chesham made a bright start but Weymouth had the first chance in the eighth minute, when Brooklyn Genesini got in on the right and chipped the ball over the advancing Dillon Addai but wide of the far post. Chesham then broke away and Samson Esan set up Zak Joseph but keeper Will Buse came out to block, then Jack Connors hit a low shot from distance that was just wide. Chesham took the lead on 24 minutes with a spectacular effort from Mitchell Weiss, who shot into the far top corner of the net from wide on the left. However the lead was to last only three minutes, as Genesini again broke clear down the right and shot just inside the far post. Dillon Addai was then forced to tip the ball over when Jake McCarthy flicked on a Brandon Goodship cross, then at the other end Connor Stevens headed just wide from a Samson Esan cross. As half-time approached Goodship missed a good chance firing wide from Euan Pollock’s headed pass, but right on the interval Chesham retook the lead. Zak Joseph’s 30-yard free kick flew straight in beating Buse at his near post.
In the second half Weymouth had far more of the ball and forced a succession of corners but to little effect. Just after the hour mark Weymouth sub Josh McQuoid missed a great chance when set up by Euan Pollock, but blazed over with only Dillon Addai to beat. Chesham rarely looked like adding to their lead, although on 73 minutes sub Gary Abisogun set up Joe Grant but Buse dived to save the resulting shot. Weymouth had one more chance when Dillon Addai’s clearance hit a team-mate and fell to Malachi Linton but Addai redeemed the situation with a smart save. Chesham wrapped up the win in the last minute of normal time when Mitchell Weiss dispossessed Jordon Thompson in the area, Buse came out to block but Alex Lafleur lifted the loose ball over the keeper and into the net.
