Recap
Chesham went down to their third successive defeat in a game that had a distinct end-of-season feel to it. This was a poor game in front of the lowest home crowd of the season, and it seemed destined to end in a goalless draw until Tonbridge scored in a rare attack midway through the second half. Chesham made five changes to the starting eleven, with T’Sharne Gallimore and Mitchell Weiss injured and Callum Adebiyi, Ashley Lodge and Karl Oliyide dropped to the bench. They were replaced by Connor Roberts, Steve Brown, Ryan Upward, Nathan Minhas and Joe Grant.
Chesham made the stronger start and in the second minute Taylor Foran turned a Connor Roberts corner towards goal but keeper Matt Rowley parried. Chesham continued to press but soon faded, and the game became scrappy with both sides giving the ball away on a regular basis. On 25 minutes a quick Chesham break saw Samson Esan fire in a shot that Rowley fumbled at the expense of a corner. Shortly afterwards Tonbridge had their one effort of the half, when Liam Vincent crossed from the left and Ethan Sutcliffe hooked the ball over. Chesham came back and Samson Esan and Nathan Minhas both tried their luck but were off target.
The second half was no better than the first. On 56 minutes a glancing header from Ryan Upward was saved by Rowley, but that was the sum total of the action until midway through the half when Tonbridge scored their winner. Following a free kick Sean Shields crossed into the Chesham area from the visitors’ left, Steve Brown missed with his attempted clearance and sub Gianluca Botti was left with a tap-in. Chesham brought on Karl Oliyide as an extra striker, before Lewis Rolfe hit a piledriver that nearly knocked out Ronny Nelson but apart from that the visitors’ defence was rarely troubled. However Chesham had one more chance deep into stoppage time, when a Connor Roberts corner was flicked on at the near post and Karl Oliyide dived in but could only glance the ball wide.
