Recap
Chesham went down to their third successive defeat after sustaining another red card. After Jack Cawley was sent off for handball and Kwesi Appiah tucked away the penalty this looked likely to be a long afternoon, and the home side killed the game as a contest by adding two more goals in the opening half-hour. With Ben Goode still injured 19-year-old Dillon Addai made his debut after joining the club in the week on a month’s loan from Millwall. There were four other changes to the team that lost to Salisbury in midweek – Jack Cawley, Ashley Lodge, Omar Rowe and Nathan Minhas replaced Avan Jones, Bradley Clayton, Joe Grant and Karl Oliyide.
The moment in the game came in the ninth minute, when a scramble in the Chesham area ended with Jack Cawley handling on the line as Kwesi Appiah attempted to turn in a loose ball. Cawley was sent off and Appiah tucked away the resulting penalty. Chesham regrouped with Connor Roberts taking a more central role, but on 20 minutes Lee Ndlovu’s shot on the turn from just outside the area found the net past Addai’s right hand. Chesham came back with Mitchell Weiss trying to beat Nathan Ashmore at his near post but the keeper tipped the ball away for a corner. However on 27 minutes T’Sharne Gallimore lost possession inside the Chesham half and Jon Benton sent Appiah clear to score the third. Chesham again tried to come back and Callum Adebiyi ran forward and powered in a shot but Ashmore was able to beat it away.
The home side were looking comfortable in the second half, although Chesham had one chance on 62 minutes when a Connor Roberts drive was beaten away by Ashmore. Both sides made substitutions just after the hour mark but with little effect on the outcome of the game. Midway through the half Joe Grant glanced a header wide from Alex Lafleur’s free kick. Ten minutes from time the home side looked sure to add a fourth but Abdul Abdulmalik’s shot flew just wide with the aid of a slight deflection. Shortly afterwards the ball dropped to Karl Oliyide who blazed over from inside the home area, then Chesham had one more chance when Omar Rowe got to the by-line and pulled the ball back for Oliyide who shot just past the far post.
