Recap
Chesham failed to make ground on the teams above them as they went down to their fourth successive defeat in all competitions. After going behind early on Chesham dominated the second half, but failed to make their superiority count in front of goal s the home defence held out. There were two changes to the starting eleven that lost at Boreham Wood – Alex Lafleur was injured and Omar Rowe dropped to the bench, to be replaced by Bradley Clayton and Joe Grant. Harry Rush was back on the bench for the first time since being injured on New Year’s Day.
Chesham made the early running, and were awarded a penalty in the seventh minute when T’Sharne Gallimore was tripped in the area following a corner. However home keeper Matt Rowley dived to his right to keep out Jack Cawley’s spot-kick. The home side made their first serious attack on 17 minutes and it brought the game’s only goal. Trevan Robinson broke down the right and pulled the ball back, the ball was cleared back to him and Robinson scored with a shot from a tight angle. Tonbridge came close again when Ethan Sutcliffe crossed low and Robinson slid in but could only lift the ball over the bar. Chesham’s best moment of the half came just before the half-hour mark, when a Connor Stevens header from a corner clipped the top of the bar. Shortly before half-time Tonbridge’s Jamie Fielding shot over after a corner was cleared to him on the edge of the area.
In the second half Chesham began to show greater urgency, and early on Mitchell Weiss’ through ball sent Nathan Minhas clear but a late challenge cleared the ball for a corner. Shortly afterwards Minhas worked another shooting chance but his first effort was blocked and the follow-up deflected away for another corner. Just after the hour mark a Connor Roberts corner was cleared to Bradley Clayton whose shot was was tipped round the post by Rowley. However Chesham failed to create any further chances as frustration began to creep in as the game wore on. In stoppage time Tonbridge took the ball into the corner to waste time, and Jack Cawley was shown a second yellow card as he tried to take a quick free kick. Chesham still pushed forward and late on Omar Rowe played the ball into the area from the left, but Nathan Minhas was unable to turn it towards goal.
