Recap
Chesham again showed their remarkable penchant for scoring late goals as they netted three times in the last few minutes after trailing for over an hour. Chesham have now scored 28 goals this season and 12 of them have come after the 80th minute. Chesham were second best in the first half but fought their way back into the game and Chippenham eventually folded under the pressure. Initially there were to be three changes from the team that drew at Weymouth on Saturday, with Steve Brown, Jack Connors and Bradley Clayton coming in for Jack Cawley, Alex Lafleur and the injured T’Sharne Gallimore. However Jack Connors was injured during the warm-up so Lafleur was restored to the starting eleven and Avan Jones came in on the bench.
Chesham adopted a different formation with Lewis Rolfe in central midfield, but Chippenham took control of the game early on and Ben Goode made an early save when Freddie Grant got on the end of a Will Dawes corner. Chesham were starting to get a foothold in the game when the visitors took the lead on 26 minutes, Harry Parsons running on to a through ball and firing into the corner of the net from the edge of the area. Towards half-time Chesham began to put some serious pressure on for the first time, and Nathan Minhas glanced a header towards goal from a Bradley Clayton corner but the effort was blocked at the expense of a second corner.
After the restart Chesham came out strongly, and in the opening minute Nathan Minhas and Alex Lafleur combined on the left to set up Samson Esan whose shot was blocked at the expense of a corner. Chesham were starting to come into the game but there was little end product, although Chippenham’s yellow card count increased with three in seven minutes. Midway through the half Chippenham had a rare effort on goal when Will Dawes shot and Ben Goode dived to push the ball away. In the next minute Chippenham’s fifth yellow card of the game was a second for Dawes following another rash challenge, and Chesham took advantage of the extra man to take control of the game. As the game went into the closing minutes Chesham eventually broke through when Nathan Minhas crossed low and Jack Cawley fired into the net. Chesham were now looking for a winner, and in the next minute Samson Esan cut in from the left and attempted to chip keeper Will Henry but his effort came back off the far post. Chesham forced another corner and Omar Rowe’s kick came through a crowd of players to the far post, where Steve Brown fired home to turn the game on its head. The visitors had nothing left and Chesham managed a third deep into stoppage time. Omar Rowe got round the back of the Chippenham defence and crossed low into the goalmouth where Lewis Colwell bundled the ball into his own net.
