Recap
Chesham moved into the top half of the table with this win which preserves their unbeaten away record. After conceding an early goal and being second best in the opening half-hour, Chesham turned the game around before half-time and held on in the second period. Chesham’s resources were stretched with Jack Cawley suspended and six other players either injured or unavailable, including Nathan Minhas although he was named as a substitute. Ronny Mfinda re-signed as cover and came on briefly at the end of the game.
The home side took the lead in the fifth minute following a quick counter-attack, Ronan Silva shooting low into the bottom corner although Ben Goode got a hand to it. Salisbury dominated the opening minutes but had only one further effort on goal, when Josh Hedges had a shooting chance but fired straight at Ben Goode. Chesham had shown little in attack but the course of the game changed just after the half-hour. Omar Rowe and Jack Connors combined on the left, Connors’ cross-shot was palmed out by keeper Ryan Gosney and Joe Grant netted from the rebound. Ten minutes later Grant set up Mitchell Weiss whose shot took a slight deflection and flew just wide, then Omar Rowe shot on the turn and Gosney pulled off a fine flying save to stop the ball finding the top corner of the net. However Jack Connors took the resulting corner and Callum Adebiyi gave Chesham the lead with a fine header. Chesham could have had a third in stoppage time when Omar Rowe broke clear but shot just wide as Gosney came out.
Chesham started the second half well with Mitchell Weiss having a shot blocked after Omar Rowe had set him up. However Salisbury began to come back into the game and Ben Goode had to be alert to get to a through ball just ahead of Silva. Just before the hour mark Jordan Ragguette had a shot which Ben Goode tipped over. Salisbury were now on top but Chesham’s defence was holding out and Ben Goode was rarely tested. However on 79 minutes Chesham had a major let-off, when a left-wing corner was played back to Ragguette whose 30-yard drive smashed against the bar and bounced down but did not cross the line. Ragguette then crossed to Josh Hedges who headed wide, but after that Salisbury pressed hard but rarely looked like breaking through. Late in the game Chesham broke away and a Jack Connors free kick found the head of Joe Grant but Gosney saved comfortably.
