Recap

For a long time it looked as if this would be a fourth home defeat out of four for Chesham.  By the middle of the second half Aveley had opened up a two-goal lead and Chesham were struggling to break down their defence.  However Chesham kept plugging away and clinched the three points in a memorable finale. Chesham’s starting eleven was unchanged from the midweek win at Salisbury.

Chesham made the early running, and in the sixth minute Mitchell Weiss was clean through but hesitated and keeper Carey Bloedorn came out to block.  Weiss then blocked an attempted clearance by Bloedorn and the ball could have gone anywhere but somehow dropped over the bar.  However in the next minute the visitors took the lead, when Razzaq Coleman fired in a shot than Ben Goode touched onto the post from where it rolled just over the line.  Chesham dominated the rest of the half but only occasionally threatened an equaliser.  Avan Jones shot over after Mitchell Weiss had set him up, Weiss then broke down the left and Omar Rowe helped the ball on to Joe Grant who shot just wide, and Connor Stevens had a chance but was denied by a last-ditch challenge.  However in stoppage time Chesham had a great chance when the referee awarded a penalty, following a clumsy challenge by Bloedorn on Mitchell Weiss.  However Bloedorn dived to his right to keep out Ashley Lodge’s spot-kick and Lodge’s follow-up effort.

Early in the second half Chesham lost Mitchell Weiss following a clash of heads, so Nathan Minhas came on up front.  However after a quiet spell Aveley added a second goal midway through the half.  David Kawa cut in from the left and fired the ball past Ben Goode into the far top corner of the net, although it was possible that it was really a mishit cross.  Chesham needed a boost and got it six minutes later, when a Jack Connors corner ran loose in the box and Connor Stevens netted from close range.  Chesham were starting to look dangerous with Nathan Minhas causing problems with his pace.  Joe Grant sent Minhas clear but Bloedorn just got to the ball first, then a quick clearance from Ben Goode found Minhas whose shot flew just over with the aid of a slight deflection.  Jack Connors took the resulting corner and Jack Cawley’s header just clipped the top of the bar.  A rare Aveley attack saw Ben Goode punch away a free kick from Ikechi Eze, but the later stages were all Chesham.  In stoppage time Omar Rowe threaded the ball through to Nathan Minhas who netted but was flagged offside.  However in the next minute a Jack Cawley long throw was partly cleared and Samson Esan found the bottom corner of the net with a shot from the edge of the area.  There were still six minutes of stoppage time to go and Chesham pushed forward again, and a right-wing move saw the ball crossed low and Devonte Aransibia marked his debut for the club with a dramatic late winner.
