Recap
After a long hard season Chesham relaxed in a game where they had nothing to play for. Tiverton started the game in the relegation zone, so were much more motivated and it showed as they ultimately clinched a potentially crucial victory. There were five changes to the team that beat Salisbury the week before. Steve Brown, Kieran Murphy, Callum Adebiyi, Jack Connors and James Harding were all named as substitutes. They were replaced by Avan Jones with Lewis Rolfe switching to the centre of defence, Eoin Casey, T’Sharne Gallimore, Ogo Obi and Ricardo German. This meant that Jordan Edwards dropped into the Jack Connors role in midfield.
Chesham made a bright start and in the fifth minute Eoin Casey got his head to a Bradley Clayton corner, the ball ran loose in the area and home keeper Zak Baker eventually grabbed it. Tiverton’s Dylan Jones ran forward from left back and fired in a shot that Zaki Oualah beat away, but there was little else to write about in a cagey first half. Chesham’s best effort came when Bradley Clayton ran at the home defence and shot high and wide, while at the other end Dylan Jones was just off target with another long-range effort and Jack Rice and Alfie Moulden both drew good saves from Zaki Oualah.
Early in the second half Chesham again came close when Ogo Obi broke free on the left but Baker turned his effort round the post. Obi again found space on the left and set up Bradley Clayton but his shot was parried by Baker. The game then went into a quiet spell until Ben Gerring headed over from a Jack Rice corner on 66 minutes. Eventually the home side found a way through on 72 minutes, when Carlo Garside ran at the defence, the ball ran loose and Alfie Moulden fired past Zaki Oualah from just inside the area. Six minutes later Jack Rice found the far top corner of the net with a curling sot to make it 2-0. After that both sides were content to play out time, although Chesham had one more effort in stoppage time when James Harding glanced a header wide from a Jordan Edwards free kick.
