Recap

Chesham left it late before claiming their seventh consecutive win and extending their lead at the top of the table to 11 points.  Poole were on a run of six defeats in a row, but made it hard for Chesham who needed a late penalty to turn the game in their favour. Once again Chesham named the same 16, but with three changes to the starting eleven – Kieran Murphy, Roddy Collins and Zak Joseph coming in and Eoin Casey, Ryan Upward and Jordan Edwards dropping to the bench

Chesham made a bright start but soon faded and the first half was fairly dull.  Chesham had the best moment of the half on 14 minutes, when a Bradley Clayton through ball found Alex Lafleur on the overlap, Lafleur pulled the ball back and Ricardo German was denied by a block by visiting keeper Lloyd Thomas.  Poole had more of the ball in the opening half but had only one serious effort on goal, a long-range effort from Declan Rose that Zaki Oualah held.

Both sides played with more urgency after the break.  In the second minute of the second half Josh Staunton was shown a yellow card for a foul on Zak Joseph, and Bradley Clayton’s free kick just cleared the bar.  Poole threatened for the first time when a free kick from Kyran Samadi ran loose in the Chesham area and Zaki Oualah saved from Jordan Chiedozie.  However Chesham immediately went back on the attack and Thomas fumbled a shot from Bradley Clayton, but the ball rolled against a post before being cleared.  Just before the hour mark Poole had their first real chance of the game, when a long ball from Billy Lowes sent Harvey Slade clear but Zaki Oualah was able to come out and save comfortably.  Again Chesham went back on the attack and Clayton crossed from the right to Lewis Rolfe whose headed was tipped over by Thomas.  Chesham then changed formation, bringing on Jordan Edwards for Kieran Murphy and the move soon paid off.  On 74 minutes an Edwards through ball saw Ricardo German break clear and fire past Thomas to open the scoring.  However five minutes later Chesham failed to clear a throw-in, and Josh Staunton fired into the net through a crowd of players to equalise.  Chesham again went on the attack and were helped by a penalty decision five minutes later.  After a right-wing cross was cleared, Alex Lafleur went towards the loose ball on the by-line only to have his arm pulled by Declan Rose.  Although it might fall into the ‘soft’ category, it was blatant and right in front of the referee who had little alternative but to give it and Ricardo German converted.  Poole threw everyone forward and were caught on the break in the fifth minute of stoppage time, when Ricardo German sent Jordan Edwards clear to round Thomas and fire home the third goal.
