Recap
Chesham turned on the style to claim their fifth consecutive win and maintain their seven-point lead at the top of the table. Swindon won the reverse fixture back in November but there was never a chance of a repeat once Jordan Edwards had opened the scoring, and Chesham went on to complete the victory with some fine football and at least one memorable goal. There were three changes to the team with Eoin Casey, Ryan Upward and Jordan Edwards handed starts and Lewis Rolfe, Kieran Murphy and Zak Joseph dropping to the bench.
Swindon had a couple of early long-range shots that were off target, but Chesham had the first serious effort on goal when Ogo Obi’s shot forced a fine flying save from keeper Fiachra Pagel. Chesham took control of the game from then on and thought they had taken the lead on 26 minutes. After a corner was cleared Roddy Collins crossed back in, Eoin Casey’s header hit the bar and Steve Brown forced the ball over the line but the referee disallowed the goal for a mystery handball. However Chesham were not to be denied and six minutes later Ogo Obi dispossessed Matt Bower and crossed to the far post, where Jordan Edwards worked a shooting chance and fired into the far top corner of the net. Shortly afterwards another defensive error allowed Bradley Clayton to break clear but Pagel read his intentions and saved comfortably. In stoppage time Clayton again set up Jordan Edwards but his shot was blocked by the visitors’ defence.
Swindon had a couple of attacks early in the second half but Chesham were soon back into their stride. Pagel tipped a Jordan Edwards shot round the post, then parried a Ryan Upward effort. Three minutes later Steve Brown crossed back into the area after a corner was cleared and Pagel parried Callum Adebiyi’s close-range shot. However just after the hour mark Bradley Clayton crossed from the right-hand touchline, two defenders got in each other’s way and Ogo Obi was able to double Chesham’s lead with a crisp shot. Still Chesham pressed and T’Sharne Gallimore’s shot beat Pagel but came back off a post, then Ogo Obi curled a shot just high and wide. On 74 minutes Levi Irving had a shot for Swindon but Zaki Oualah was able to save comfortably, then the visitors missed a great chance when sub Henry Spalding headed over an open goal. The visitors were starting to press for the first time in the game, but on 82 minutes Callum Adebiyi broke away following a corner and set up Jordan Edwards who ran through and slotted past the keeper to make it 3-0. Chesham wrapped up the points with one of the goals of the season on 89 minutes, when Lewis Rolfe headed a Bradley Clayton free kick back across goal and Ryan Upward scored with a spectacular overhead kick.
