Recap

Chesham secured a fine win that maintains their four-point lead at the top of the table.  After taking an early lead Chesham looked secure at the back and added two more goals for good measure. After last week’s postponement there were just two changes to the team that beat Hungerford two weeks ago.  Ryan Upward was unwell so T’Sharne Gallimore started in midfield, while Zak Joseph returned in place of Ogo Obi who was on the bench after joining the club on a permanent basis the day before.

Chesham went on the attack from the start and Kieran Murphy headed goalwards from a Bradley Clayton free kick but keeper Tyla Dickinson tipped the ball over the bar.  Clayton took the resulting corner low, Steve Brown dummied at the near post and Lewis Rolfe eventually forced the ball over the line for his first goal of the season.  Walton had plenty of the ball in the first half, particularly on the left where Trae Cook-Appiah looked a threat, and in the eighth minute Appiah cut inside and shot but Zaki Oualah watched the ball go wide of the near post.  After a quiet spell Chesham had another chance when Bradley Clayton got clear on the left and chipped over the advancing keeper but Joe Hicks got back to clear off the line.  At the other end a cross-shot from Johl Powell bounced away off the legs of Zaki Oualah, but most of the visitors’ attacks broke down when they got to the penalty area and Chesham’s defence was largely untested.  On 35 minutes Alex Lafleur got forward and fired the ball across goal but Dickinson managed to turn the ball round the near post at the expense of a corner.  Walton’s best effort of the game came shortly afterwards, when Stan Flaherty cut in from the right and his shot was just too high and wide.  However Chesham went straight down the other end and doubled their lead, when Ricardo German sent Zak Joseph clear to shoot past the advancing keeper and into the far corner of the net.

Early in the second half Walton continued to press but without creating any chances.  Just after the hour mark Alex Lafleur and Zak Joseph combined down the left, Joseph crossed and Ricardo German had only the keeper to beat but miscontrolled.  In the next minute Zaki Oualah was called into serious action for the first time, with a low diving save to push away Nana Owusu’s shot.  Midway through the half Ricardo German crossed from the left and Bradley Clayton seemed sure to score but Dickinson somehow got down to save.  Two minutes later Zak Joseph’s through ball sent Ricardo German clear only to be upended by the advancing keeper.  Dickinson was shown a yellow card but saved German’s penalty which was virtually straight at him.  However shortly afterwards Zak Joseph blocked an attempted clearance by Josh Tobin and sent German clear to stroke home Chesham’s third.  Chesham seemed sure to get a fourth soon afterwards, but Dickinson saved from Zak Joseph and Bradley Clayton before T’Sharne Gallimore hit the loose ball wide.  The visitors had further chances late on without looking like getting back into the game.  A shot from Johl Powell deflected off Lewis Rolfe for a corner, sub Eddie Simon glanced a header wide from a Harry Mills cross, then in stoppage time Simon’s long-range effort was turned away by Zaki Oualah.
