Recap
Chesham’s run of seven consecutive wins came to an end, but a late header from Callum Adebiyi extended their unbeaten run to 12. This was difficult game to summarise, as Chesham were well below their best but still had enough chances to win comfortably, but spent much of the second half in fear of losing. Avan Jones came in at full back and Lewis Rolfe switched to the centre of defence. Jack Connors, Ryan Upward, Ogo Obi and Jordan Edwards also started with Bradley Clayton and Zak Joseph on the bench, making six changes in all.
Chesham were on the attack in the opening minutes and had a great chance in the fifth minute. Hanwell’s defence failed to clear a Jack Connors throw and the ball dropped to Ricardo German whose shot on the turn went wide of the near post with only keeper Sam Beasant to beat. From another Connors throw Ryan Upward’s shot on the turn was deflected high and wide, then a Jordan Edwards corner ran loose in the box and Ricardo German’s shot was deflected over the bar. However Chesham faded and the game became scrappy, although Chesham did have one more chance when Jordan Edwards helped on a long clearance from Zaki Oualah but Ogo Obi miscued his shot from just inside the area. Hanwell had shown little going forward until shortly before half-time, when a Mat MacKenzie long throw came to Jacob Bancroft whose shot was blocked at the expense of a corner.
Chesham began to show signs of frustration early in the second half as Hanwell defended in numbers and were proving difficult to break down. Just after the hour mark a Jack Connors through ball set up Ricardo German whose hurried shot flew just wide. Two minutes later Lewis Rolfe set up German for another chance but keeper Sam Beasant saved with his feet. Jack Connors took the resulting corner, and Jordan Edwards had a free header in front of goal but could only glance the ball well wide. However it was the visitors who took the lead on 72 minutes, when Sam Evans broke down the right and the ball came to Dan Carr who shot into the roof of the net from the edge of the area. Chesham brought on Zak Joseph and immediately Joseph got to the by-line and pulled the ball back and Ryan Upward shot over the bar. On 77 minutes Ricardo German went on a run at the Hanwell defence and beat three players only to shoot wide with just Beasant to beat. German hooked another chance over but was flagged offside, but otherwise Chesham were struggling to break through. However on 89 minutes Bradley Clayton’s corner was headed in by Callum Adebiyi to equalise. In the next minute Hanwell’s Sam Evans was shown a straight red card for a nasty challenge on Lewis Rolfe who seemed to be caught by the player’s shoulder in the face. Chesham threw everything forward in a late attempt to find a winner but Hanwell pulled everyone back and held out for a point.
