Recap
Chesham put last week’s defeat behind them and returned to the top of the table with this win. However Dorchester made life hard for them and the game was effectively decided by a slightly fortunate goal midway through the second half. New signing Alex Lafleur made his debut after joining the club from Nuneaton Borough, and Bradley Clayton made his first start of the season after injury. They replaced Jordan Edwards and Ryan Upward who were both on the bench, alongside Ogo Obi who signed for a third loan spell in the week. Roddy Collins came on as a late substitute for his first appearance for the club in 16 months after an ACL injury.
Alex Lafleur nearly made a spectacular start to his Chesham career, when he ran on to Bradley Clayton’s pass and fired in a shot that crashed against the bar and bounced down before being cleared. Chesham had more of the ball in the early stages and came close again, when a corner routine saw Harry Rush cross and Ricardo German’s header was tipped over by keeper Adam Forster. The visitors rarely threatened but had a golden opportunity on 27 minutes, when Will Fletcher seized on a loose ball and broke clear but shot straight at the advancing Zaki Oualah. Chesham continued to press and Ricardo German broke into the Dorchester area but shot into the side netting, then a poor clearance found Zak Joseph who shot just wide from the edge of the area. The half came to a close with a shot on the turn from Ricardo German that beat Forster but hit the outside of the post.
After the interval Chesham dominated the game and caused a few scrambles n the Dorchester area but failed to break down the visitors’ well-organised defence. However the course of the game was changed when Chesham took the lead on 69 minutes. Callum Adebiyi launched the ball forward, Jordan Edwards challenged a defender on the edge of the area and the ball rolled past Forster and into the net just inside the post. Forster injured himself in attempting to clear and was carried off on a stretcher after a ten-minute delay, with defender Will Spetch taking over in goal. In spite of this Dorchester had their best effort of the game shortly afterwards, when Olaf Koszela cut in from the left and shot just wide of the near post. Chesham immediately broke away and Ricardo German was clear on goal, but after attempting to go round Spetch German went down and was booked for diving. There were thirteen minutes of added time but Dorchester never threatened again, and Chesham wrapped up the points when a breakaway down the left ended with Ricardo German setting up Ogo Obi for a tap-in.
