Recap
The handful of Chesham fans who made the long trip for this fixture will not recall the day with any great affection. After train delays of over three hours in total, the team finally arrived at 4.10 pm and the match started barely twenty minutes later so it was perhaps unsurprising that the team were caught cold and finished heavily beaten. There were three changes to the team that beat Tiverton eleven days before – Callum Adebiyi, Kieran Murphy and Jordan Edwards coming in for Jack Connors, Eoin Casey and Ogo Obi.
After an early Chesham attack the home side forced a corner, and Zaki Oualah saved at the expense of a second corner which Reece Thomson headed in to give Plymouth the lead. Two minutes later it was 2-0 as Thomson squared from the left and Tom Purrington netted at the near post. Chesham rarely threatened and the game became a stalemate until the half-hour mark, when a shot from the edge of the Chesham area came to Mikey Williams who turned the ball across the goal and into the net. In the last minute of the half had their only effort of note, when Callum Adebiyi shot over the bar after the home defence cleared a Lewis Rolfe throw-in.
Early in the second half Zak Joseph fired in a long-range effort that was well struck but off target, then a neat Chesham move saw Jordan Edwards set up Joseph whose shot bounced away off the foot of keeper Adam Parkes. Plymouth came back with Oscar Halls heading wide of the far post from a Ryan Lane corner. Chesham brought on Ogo Obi for the last game of his loan spell, and on the hour mark Obi shot straight at Parkes following good work by Jordan Edwards. Midway through the half Plymouth mounted an attack which saw Reece Thomson’s shot blocked for a corner, which was cleared as far as Rio Garside who shot wide. Chesham made a double substitution and Ryan Upward shot over the bar after a Lewis Rolfe free kick was partly cleared. On 78 minutes Upward fed Jordan Edwards who shot high and wide, but the home side added a fourth two minutes later when Rio Garside’s shot was blocked and the ball came to Matt Wright who beat Zaki Oualah from close range. It could have been even worse for Chesham five minutes later when Ryan Lane netted but was flagged offside, although the game had been over as a contest long before then.
