Recap
As this game moved into stoppage time and Ricardo German’s penalty gave them a 2-0 lead, it looked as if Chesham had put Saturday’s defeat firmly behind them. However a late rally by the home side brought an unlikely draw with a 99th minute equaliser. There were five changes to the starting eleven that lost to Winchester – Connor Roberts, Lesley Duru, Kieran Murphy, T’Sharne Gallimore and Bruno Andrade coming in and Avan Jones, Jack Connors, Steve Brown, Jordan Edwards and Josh Allen dropping out.
Andrade was making his first start and marked it with a goal in the fourth minute, after Ricardo German raced down the right and crossed low to the near post. The remainder of the first half was very even, with the home side having plenty of possession but without any goal threat. On 8 minutes Harry Rush took a right-wing corner low into the area to Bruno Andrade but his shot was saved by home keeper Liam Allen. Midway through the half Ricardo German held off a defender a fired in a shot that came off Mitchal Gough for a corner, which Harry Rush took and Callum Adebiyi’s header came back off the bar. Three minutes later a Jordan Gibbons long throw came through to Lewis Rolfe who stabbed the ball wide of the near post. Walton’s best chance of the half came shortly before the half-hour mark, when the ball dropped to Eddie Simon in the area but his hurried shot cleared the bar from twelve yards.
The remainder of the first half and the early stages of the second were a stalemate with neither side coming close. On the hour mark Walton’s Aris Nuur fired in a powerful shot that beat Zaki Oualah but flew just wide. Midway through the half Lesley Duru and Bruno Andrade combined down the left, and the ball came to Ricardo German who controlled and shot just past the far post from a narrow angle. On 78 minutes a Walton corner came to Mitchal Gough at the far post and his shot was blocked on the line, but otherwise the Chesham defence was rarely troubled. As the game moved into stoppage time Chesham were awarded a penalty, although Mitchal Gough’s tackle on Ricardo German looked a fair one. German beat Allen from the spot and that looked to be game over, but Chesham eased off and conceded a soft goal when a long throw came straight through to Eddie Simon who netted from close range. This gave the home side renewed hope and in the ninth minute of stoppage time Sam Tutt headed in a left-wing corner at the far post to give the home side an unlikely point.
