Recap

Chesham made it five wins from five with an ultimately comfortable if slightly flattering win over struggling Beaconsfield. The visitors matched Chesham in the early stages but after Chesham took the lead they rarely looked like losing it, even after losing sub Lucas Sinclair to a red card in the second half. There were three changes to the starting eleven from Saturday’s win at Dorchester – Lesley Duru, Harry Rush and Ricardo German replacing Jack Connors, T’Sharne Gallimore and Jordan Edwards.

Chesham had one early chance when the visitors’ defence failed to clear a long throw and Josh Allen hooked the ball over the bar, but otherwise failed to test former Chesham keeper Sam Beasant. Beaconsfield had plenty of possession and forced a couple of early corners which Chesham’s defence dealt with comfortably. However midway through the half Chesham broke away, Ricardo German ran for the by-line and was about to pull the ball across goal when he was brought down by a wild lunge by Luke Neville. German himself got up and tucked away the resulting penalty. Beaconsfield continued to push but only had one effort on goal, when Jacob Gardiner-Smith’s long-range shot flew well over. Five minutes from half-time Chesham should have had another penalty when Josh Allen was bundled over by Lewis Pegg, but Beaconsfield failed to clear and Ricardo German lashed in an angled drive past Beasant to make it 2-0. In stoppage time a fine run by Shaquille Hippolyte-Patrick ended with a shot well over the bar.

The visitors brought on Jonathan Hippolyte at half-time to take the number of ex-Chesham players in their side up to four. The change brought an immediate effect with Asher Yearwood forcing a fine diving save from Zaki Oualah. Oualah then came out of his goal but was beaten to the ball by Hippolyte, who lobbed towards the empty net but Lewis Rolfe got back to make a spectacular clearance off the line. Chesham came back with Connor Roberts crossing to the far post but Ricardo German could only head the ball wide, but soon moved three goals clear thanks to a schoolboy error by Lewis Pegg. Thinking that he had been pushed from behind by Josh Allen, Pegg grabbed the ball as he fell only to find that the referee had given nothing, so had no option but to point to the spot. German completed his hat-trick to wrap up the points. Beaconsfield kept plugging away and midway through the half Zaki Oualah made a great save to tip Dan Bradshaw’s effort over the bar. Chesham then had a great chance to score a fourth when Josh Allen broke away but his final shot was saved by Beasant. On 74 minutes Chesham sub Lucas Sinclair was shown a straight red card after catching Luke Neville in the face in an aerial challenge, although the contact appeared to be purely accidental. However Chesham saw the game out, and had another chance to score a fourth but Allen was again denied by the legs of Sam Beasant. In the next minute visiting sub Lenny Farhall had a shooting chance but Zaki Oualah made another fine low save to secure a second consecutive clean sheet.
