Recap
Chesham produced a fine display to clinch their first points of the season after last week’s abandonment. Chesham dominated the first half and would have been comfortably ahead at the interval but for a series of fine saves from visiting keeper Ryan Clarke. The second half was more even, but Chesham added a second and held on despite losing Steve Brown to injury shortly before the end. Chesham made one change from the side that started the abandoned game at Hanwell – Lewis Rolfe replacing Jack Connors at left wing-back.
Chesham made a positive start and in the seventh minute won a free kick in a dangerous position, and Jordan Edwards’ shot forced a fine save from Clarke in the visitors’ goal. Four minutes later Shaquille Hippolyte-Patrick crossed from the right and Edwards’ far post header produced a great save from Clarke. At the other end Cian Moore watched as a shot from Joe Shepherd hit the side netting, but Chesham were soon back on the attack and Jordan Edwards poked a shot wide following a Connor Roberts corner. However three minutes later Edwards turned provider, with a low ball from the right that Connor Roberts swept into the net from just inside the area to give Chesham the lead. The rest of the half was virtually all Chesham: Clarke came out to save at the feet of Shaquille Hippolyte-Patrick, Jordan Edwards had a free kick superbly tipped over by Clarke after Luke Carnell was booked for bringing down Hippolyte-Patrick on the edge of the area, Connor Roberts had a shot blocked for a corner after a neat one-two with Hippolyte-Patrick, then Ricardo German worked a shooting chance and beat Clarke but the ball smacked against the post and out for a goal kick.
Chesham still had more of the ball after the interval but chances were fewer. Shortly before the hour mark a corner was cleared, but the ball was played back in and Callum Adebiyi’s snap shot was deflected over for another corner. Shortly afterwards a long free kick from Connor Roberts came to Callum Adebiyi in the area but he could only side-foot the ball over. The visitors were starting to look more threatening and Conor McDonagh tried a hurried shot but miscued wide from the edge of the area. On 72 minutes Chesham made it 2-0, when a neat move down the right saw a back-heel from Shaquille Hippolyte-Patrick set up Jordan Edwards who fired into the far top corner of the net. However Hungerford halved the deficit two minutes later, when Rhys Tyler crossed from the by-line for McDonagh to head in from close range. Chesham came back with Hippolyte-Patrick hooking the ball just over from inside the area, then Ricardo German broke clear but Clarke dived at his feet to save. The visitors came close again on 82 minutes, when a long throw was headed out to Jack Stanley whose long-range effort produced a fine save from Cian Moore.
Chesham managed to see out the game despite losing Steve Brown to injury, and despite the referee adding eleven minutes of stoppage time. In the sixth additional minute Shaquille Hippolyte-Patrick was clean through only to be hauled down from behind by Matt Berry-Hargreaves on the edge of the area. Berry-Hargreaves was shown a straight red card, to be followed six minutes later by Hippolyte-Patrick following a foul on Fabio Lopes.
