Chesham United Ladies FC – The Home of Women’s & Girl’s Football in Buckinghamshire

Formed in 1996, the following season the running of club was taken on by Sian Williams, Lisa Welling & Christine Thornton more by accident than planning, like all new teams it was a struggle, but a link with Don Wrights Chesham Youth team in 1997 was very wise move, Jess Wright then just 14 moved on to Chelsea and now captains Leeds. The team folded and left behind teenagers Di Killey, Catherine Sole, Dawne Stocks, and Cath Andrews all who are still playing today, they immediately strengthened Chesham’s team and t progressed through the Southern Region to become League & Cup winners 1999/00 & 2000/01. The 2001/02 season saw a step up to combination football in the Southeast Combination League where we finished a credible 5th place in our 1st season.

The 2002/03 season saw a shift sideways to the South west Combination, where the finishing position improved season on season, 5th, 4th and 3rd in the First three seasons.

2003/04 season saw the ladies win the Berks and Bucks Cup for the first time beating Reading Ladies 3-1 in the final. Miguel de Souza brought a new style of football to the team and although it took a while for the team to find their feet they continually finished in the top half of the league, but the players had set their sights on reaching the national league and felt the team had stagnated. 08/09 saw the departure of Miguel and a new player centred coaching team in place, which has brought many positive results with the introduction of Matt Johnstone maintaining the top 4 finishes, on finishing university Matt had to step down and Ed Keeler has been brought in this season to oversee the 1st team.
