This season’s awards took place on a record setting date -11th July, in fact in any other year we’d have been back for pre-season games by now but this year is like no other. First of all, thank you to everyone that attended, respected the social distancing protocols in place at the Chess Suite and stayed for a chat with the players and management who have done a fantastic job over the season.
We started off with recently appointed Chairman Peter Brown thanking everyone for attending, and to all the supporters, volunteers, players, management and the rest of the board for making last season a success. We were in a fantastic position before the season was brought to a premature end and as a club were looking forward to seeing how the season played out. Peter also thanked the former Chairman Brian McCarthy who became the club’s President during the lockdown for his efforts and for the future as President.
Next up were JD & Muzza who took us through the season from their perspective, as well as how the last few months have gone with the lockdown and how not having a starting date for this season makes it difficult to plan but they have been speaking with the players about the 2020/21 season.
The afternoon then moved onto the awards presentation with a total of 10 awards presented
- Young Player of the Season – Josh Smith
Josh is the Academy captain, where he had a fantastic season but Josh also made his first team debut this season at 16 years of age in the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup at Newport Pagnell Town, the first of the new Chesham United academy squad to make a first team appearance for the club.
- Top Goalscorer’s – Dave Pearce & Karl Oliyide
Dave & Karl finished tied for the season with 15 goals each in all competitions, a tight race which would have been decided over the run-in of the season. Was good to see a number of the squad make double-figures in the goal tally, the sign of a great team season.
- Bucks Examiner Player of the Season – Zak Joseph
This award is decided based on the number of Man of the Match awards each player receives through the season, Zak received 6 Man of the Match awards. Narrowly beating Bradley Clayton with 5 MoM’s and Adam Martin, Karl Oliyide and Dave Pearce tied with 4 each for 3rd place.
The Volunteer and Supporter of the Season awards followed the end of the first set of playing awards, these awards are to reward the individuals who complete the unsung tasks at the club or go above and beyond to follow the Generals to keep the club running over the course of a long season.
- Volunteer of the Season (sponsored by Asprey Harris) – Ray Trafford
- Supporter of the Season (sponsored by First for Trophies) – Gavin Jones
The Supporters Trust Player of the Season award was an extremely tight contest, with over 150 voters. Everyone was asked to order their top 3 players of the season. Points are then awards in reverse order (1st place = 3 points, 2nd place = 2 points and 3rd place = 1 point).
- Supporters Trust Player of the Season- Jeanmal Prosper
- 2nd Place – Dave Pearce
- 3rd Place – Bradley Clayton
The final awards for the season were awarded by the managers after much debate and discussion among the dressing room and coaching staff. Both players are talented and hard working members of the dressing room and winning these particular awards is no mean feat in a successful season with a strong squad.
- Player’s Player of the Season – Jeanmal Prosper
- Manager’s Player of the Season – Eoin Casey
A big thank you to everyone that came, the club are looking forward to next season as much as the supporters and we hope to have news from the League and the FA in the next few weeks following the latest guidelines issued by DCMS and the government.
