Ahead of our visit to Tiverton Town on Saturday, we spoke to Michael Murray to get his thoughts on the last few weeks and the season ahead.

In our last Saturday game, we made the trip to Walton Casuals. James and I went to watch them play against Beaconsfield not so long ago. We knew we were in for a tough game against a team that play the ‘modern’ way. They make lots of passes and move the ball very well, we had a game plan to counter that specific threat. The game was a great one for the neutral, especially the second half.

We went behind to a good strike but then got back in the game with some great build up play, a great cross from Jeanmal which was finished by Jeff. We started the better in the second half and got our noses in front through Jeanmal with a great driving run which ended up with a great strike which went in of the post. Again, like so many teams we have come up against this season, we seemed to concede the majority of possession without ever being in much trouble.

We believed the 3 points were ours, even more so after they hit the bar from the spot. Sadly, this was not to be with a good goal on their part. Some great link up play down their right hand side which resulted in their right back finishing in the bottom hand corner.  As disappointed as we were at the time. It was another point on the road against a good side.

A cold, wet Tuesday evening brought us down to Poole. Leaving the club at 3:30 was not ideal for anyone and is a recipe for disaster. I must say I thought the boy were brilliant on the night from front to back they all put in a great shift. It’s not easy to get away from work early, have a 3-hour coach journey and then give a performance like that.

Although the game was not full of goal mouth entertainment, again I believed we had the best chances in the game. It was not meant to be on the night, Poole are a good side and will cause teams big problems, taking a point at their place is a good one. Another plus to the evening was having Lewis Rolfe back in the squad, a key member of the squad who has been missing for a long period of time with a foot injury.

With last Saturday’s game vs Gosport being called off we now have a week to prepare for the long trip to Tiverton. Another really important game as they are in and around us. It is vital another solid performance is produced, for the supporters that will be making the long trip down with us, I know it is appreciated immensely by the players and does make a big difference.

For those that can’t make it, our next home game will be Saturday 16th against Hartley. Hopefully see you all there.
