Chesham United Appoint Alex Horne as Director
Chesham United Association Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of avid supporter and star of television’s Taskmaster programme, Alex Horne as a Director of the club.
Chairman Peter Brown could not stop beaming as he confirmed: “Alex Horne has agreed to join the Board of Directors, bringing some much-needed youth to the aged boardroom we now have! Many of you will know Alex from his television appearances, perhaps best-known for his role in the popular TV series Taskmaster – a programme in which he regularly gives free publicity to his favourite football team, Chesham United.
“I am sure Alex will bring much to us as a club with his experience, knowledge, contacts and most importantly his love for the football club. We recently hosted the Taskmaster Gathering at The Meadow and he had 2,000 Taskmaster fans chanting the name ‘Chesham’ from the terraces – hopefully we will be able to replicate that on the terraces in the coming months.”
Award-winning comedian, author and podcaster and long-established figure in the British comedy scene, Alex Horne was equally pleased with the appointment. “At the recent Gathering at the football club I was asked by the Chairman if I would be interested in joining the Board. I thought about it for about two seconds before saying ‘yes’” he explained. “I have made no secret of my support for the club, using every possible opportunity to promote them when I get a chance in my day job and I have been grateful for the opportunity to use the ground here at Chesham for filming tasks for Taskmaster, that has been very special.
“Also, I’m pretty sure I heard someone say I’d definitely be brought on to take a penalty if/when we get through to a major cup final at Wembley.”
For Alex Chesham United has always been a family affair, “my kids have been involved in the youth set-up for a number of years now and we have attended as many games as work commitments allow. To now be in a position to help raise the profile of the club and support the Board in their ambitious plans to make the club sustainable for the future is an exciting prospect and one I look forward to being a part of.”
