Chesham United Football Club is delighted to announce a new shirt sponsorship arrangement, for the 2023/24 season the senior Men’s team will carry the Taskmaster brand on the front of both the home and away shirts.

The BAFTA winning Channel 4 comedy entertainment show is now in its 15th series and is the brainchild of Chesham United Director, Alex Horne, who also presents the programme alongside the Taskmaster himself, Greg Davies.

Chairman Peter Brown is delighted with the new arrangement, confirming: “Since Alex Horne agreed to join the Board just over a year ago he has done a tremendous job of raising the profile of Chesham United Football club, culminating in the incredible comedy football match we hosted a fortnight ago, attended by nearly 3,000 supporters. We would like to thank Alex Horne and Avalon for their ongoing co-operation and support.

With this in mind we have come to the unique arrangement whereby our First XI will be proudly wearing the Taskmaster name on our kit for all games played next season, and we will be looking to sell replica shirts, which will exclusively be available through the official Chesham United website. This is a really exciting partnership that I know will continue to raise the profile of our club, as well as raising more awareness for the hit television programme. I would also like to say a big thank you to Coyle White Devine Solicitors whose name will be on the back of both kits for the forthcoming season.”

While Alex Horne, creator of Taskmaster, added: “As a football fan I understand how important words on shirts are. I grew up with Candy and Crown Paints dominating my childhood. Now, I hope, Taskmaster will be forever associated with my dream team, Chesham Utd, and everyone will live happily ever after”.

It is a far cry from where the football club has been in the past with commercial arrangements for shirt sponsorship, however such is the popularity of Taskmaster and the cult following it attracts, there are expectations that shirt sales could raise significant income that will outstrip any previous shirt sponsorship deals. This is just another example of how the club is evolving to think differently about potential income streams to make the club sustainable and continue to challenge for promotion to the next level of the pyramid without putting the future of the club in financial jeopardy.

The new kit will also see a further return to the club’s traditional claret & blue, with new blue shorts and blue socks to be worn alongside a predominantly claret & blue shirt, whilst the away kit is a stylish yellow and black. The new replica shirts will only be available from a new online shop being set-up at www.cheshamunited.co.uk, details of which will be announced shortly.
