Chesham United in our Community

Chesham United Football Club is committed to playing an active role in our local community and we have opened up our facilities for a wide range of groups over the last few months.

If you are involved with a community group and would like to make use of the club please do get in touch  - if we are able to help we will do. Here are just a few examples of how we have been involved recently.

In January 2011 The Football Association awarded Chesham United, and Chesham United Girls & Ladies, their highest grade of FA Charter Standard ‘Community Club’ in recognition of excellence in devloping the National Game at all levels.

Since the British Legion HQ building burnt down we have offered the club as a base for their meetings, Poppy Appeals organisation and social events. We are also open for the Chesham Legion every Sunday lunchtime.

CHAV, the Chesham Action Volunteers group, was set up by the Mayor to provide assistance in the event of severe weather. The group is based out of Chesham United using the club facilities and we stayed open all night in December to provide overnight stays for drivers stranded in the snow.

We’ve been delighted to welcome the children and staff of Heritage House School to the club for their events. We staff the club with volunteers for these at no cost to the school.

Throughout the year groups make use of the pitch for fundraising matches at Chesham. The Aaron West appeal staged a game at short notice recently, again organised by supporter volunteers, and raised over £5,000 for a hugely worthwhile cause whilst Tesco also staged the finals of their company World Cup at The Meadow this season to raise funds for CLIC Sargent. January’s first team friendly with the RAF raised funds for Help For Heroes and the club will also stage games for the Chesham Sunday League and for local schools later in the season  - Chesham Grammar School take on Dr Challoners here on Wednesday 16th March at 6pm.

The Chesham United Supporters’ Trust also regularly organises joint fundraising events such as their sponsored walks which have raised thousands of pounds for groups like Iain Rennie Hospice and Heritage House School.

As well as staging matches the club is available as a meeting venue for various football groups in the area. The Chesham Sunday League hold their meetings and disciplinary sessions at the club and it is regularly used by the Chiltern Referees Society for their meetings.

At the start of 2011 we started working with an outside company to offer training facilities for local job seekers leading to National Vocational Qualifications and a potential future career in stewarding and event management. Once more these opportunities are based out of The Meadow.

As you can see, there is much more going at Chesham United than simply a first team match every couple of weeks. This year we will stage upwards of 80 games at the ground providing a facility for youngsters, ladies, junior clubs and community groups as well as the senior men’s side with the excitement of another possible promotion campaign. We’d love you to join us.
