This Tuesday the 1st XI visit St Neots for the final game of the Evo-Stik Southern Premier League 2016/16 season, The Generals' sixty-third competitive game in a campaign that has brought historic cup success.
Whilst our hosts cannot improve upon their current standing of 19th - and could finish in 20th, just one place above the drop zone if Chesham win and Stratford prevail over Cambridge - The Generals can move from 13th to 11th place if they take all three points. In the sides' most recent matches St Neots went down 0-2 at 3rd placed Hitchin Town, whilst Chesham were putting paid to Weymouth's faintly lingering play-off hopes on Saturday with Kelvin Bossman's late solo winner.
For travelling supporters the venue is The Cosy Stadium, Rowley Park, Kester Way, Cambridge Road, St Neots, Cambridgeshire, PE19 6SN
Manager Andy Leese commented:
"We travel to St Neots tonight looking to round off an extraordinary season with a win. We did well on Saturday to finish the home season on a high against Weymouth. We worked hard after a tough week and it was just reward to see the home season out with a win. The players are feeling it physically after a demanding season with some having played more than 50 games. If you factor in that we started pre season on July 1st last year then it's clear it is more than just a hobby these days. It will be a test tonight, but we will have players back in the squad after suspension.
"Joe Gater's loan has now ended. He returns to Barnet FC, although they have made a decision not to offer Joe a new contract. He has been great for us since Christmas when we signed him. He is 19 but plays with more maturity than his years. His attitude is first class and he is very grounded. I am sure he will find his way in the game at a good level and he knows where we are if he needs an opportunity."
