Sevenoaks Town put on a great occasion for this FA Cup Second Qualifying Round tie. Not only did our hosts look after an expectant crowd of 426, swelled by a good no of travelling Chesham fans, the Kent team came within a whisker of also taking care of The Generals on the pitch and will count themselves unlucky not to have won

After just five minutes an attempted Oaks' headed clearance was skied, Brad Wadkins pounced to win the loose ball and lob the home 'keeper to give Chesham an early lead and travelling fans hopes of a comfortable afternoon. The Generals then remained largely in control, comfortably keeping Sevenoaks at bay for much of the half, but were pegged back to 1-1 after Carnegie curled a 25 yard shot home just before the break

Sevenoaks started the second half fired up by the equaliser and within six minutes of the restart took the lead, Carnegie again the scorer. The home side continued to grow into the game and on several occasions moved the ball forwards with great pace, purpose and threat, whilst in contrast Chesham struggled to both thread passes together or to win second balls. With the travelling support increasingly despondent Andy Leese made the expected substitutions but clear cut chances continued to elude the visitors until in added time, with eight players forward, Barry Hayles used all of his experience to be in the right place to turn in a Dave Pearce cut back and crush Kentish hopes of an upset. The teams now replay at The Meadow this Tuesday 20th September KO 19:45. Be there!

We endured a difficult afternoon on Saturday, and it is fair to say we are fortunate to still be in the competition. We failed to capitalize on the early goal, and then allowed ourselves to get over run and out worked for a spell in the second half. We know we can play much better, but we have to earn the right. I felt we didn’t do that on Saturday. There will be plenty of people getting carried away with a couple of poor performances. We know we have to improve dramatically to stay in the competition that gave us so much last year
