This Saturday 29th October the 1st XI travel to Leatherhead for the First Qualifying Round of the 2016/17 FA Trophy. The FA Trophy is an important competition for The Generals who last season fought through three qualifying rounds and one replay to face Torquay Utd in the First Round Proper, where Chesham came within a whisker of pulling off a famous victory at Plainmoor. In that match a stoppage time goal bound shot from Dave Pearce was saved by The Gulls' 'keeper to keep the tie all square before Chesham finally went out to the National League outfit in the replay

Our hosts this Saturday play in the Ryman Isthmian Premier League and are currently 20th with 15 points. The Tanners have four wins from nineteen starts (all competitions) this season but are proving draw specialists at home with five draws, one win and just two defeats in eight games played at Fetcham Grove

Both teams have won their most recent matches. Chesham brought the points back from a 1-0 away victory at Cinderford Town on Saturday and then won again by the same score in a cracking match at The Meadow v Kettering on Tuesday evening. Leatherhead prevailed 2-1 away at bottom placed Grays Athletic on Saturday in a game in which their opponents lost two 'keepers - one to a head injury and a second to a red card - and then won 4-3 away at Merstham on Tuesday in the Ryman League Cup to record their first back to back wins of the season

With this match marking the start of a punishing schedule of seven consecutive away games in just twenty-two days The Generals will be keen to get the job done on the day. However, Leatherhead's games have usually been tight affairs with only one out of twelve matches since August having been settled by more than a single goal. With Chesham's 2016/17 season having been built to date on solid defensive foundations, but still looking to hike the conversion rate of chances being created, an intriguing afternoon's Trophy football is therefore in prospect

For those travelling independently the venue is Leatherhead Football Club, Fetcham Grove, Guildford Road, Leatherhead, Surrey KT22 9AS. The ground is only a few minutes off J9 of the M25 so is an easy journey for travelling supporters - we hope to see as many as possible of you there!

Manager Andy Leese commented ahead of Saturday's kick off:

"We travel to Leatherhead tomorrow in good spirits and good form following the two League wins this week. The players have been fantastic in terms of desire and wanting to stay in touch with the top end of the League table with all the Cup activity taking place.

"The season is following the pattern of last year with the cups and we will relish the opportunities it gives us. The FA trophy is a competition we can progress in as we know from previous campaigns. Leatherhead are in good form and it will be a challenging afternoon as always.

"We hope to see a good number of you down there. COYG!"
