Chesham came away with a point from a hard fought and well contested match at Hitchin Town's Top Field on Monday evening. The Generals could even have taken the win with some very close calls in a frantic final few minutes spent largely in the Hitchin penalty area.
Hitchin bundled the ball home from a corner in the 61st minute, despite the close attentions of Chesham stopper Ashlee Jones, who had saved spectacularly for The Generals just before half time. Chesham equalised through a deflected Drew Roberts free kick on 79 minutes. The Generals had worked unceasingly, and Manager Andy Leese introduced three substitutes late in the game to try and force the win. The breakthrough very nearly came right at the end, but a draw was probably a fair result against the side who finished equal second on points in last season's Southern Premier League.

Manager Andy Leese commented:
We were pleased with a hard earned point on Monday night. Our 4th game in 9 days since the season started tested us physically. There was nothing between the two teams most of the night although we were indebted to Ash for a spectacular save in the first half.
"We defended well as a team, and countered really well in the second half. We had chances to win it, but it is a game we would have lost last year. We are on target for the points tally we set for August. Three more tough games to come but a chance to recover this week as we look to continue our decent early form."
