Chesham went through to the Second Qualifying Round of the FA Trophy with a 3-2 win at Leatherhead.
A 9th minute Dave Pearce goal, following a great delivery from Ashlee Jones which started the move, gave Chesham an early lead. The hosts equalised on 24 minutes from a free kick but Pearce struck again on 29 minutes to give The Generals a 2-1 half time lead.
Excellent harrying work from Brad Wadkins then forced an error from which Ryan Blake put Chesham 3-1 up but Leatherhead came back to make it 3-2 on 82 minutes and set up a grandstand finish. However, The Generals held firm and came out on top after seven added minutes to make it through to the next round in which Chesham have been drawn away to a second Ryman Premier League side, Dulwich Hamlet, Second Qualifying Round to be played Sat 12th November
A full match report will follow as usual via the 1st XI Fixtures and Results page. The team now prepare for next Saturday's visit to Peterborough Utd, flying high in League One, in the FA Cup First Qualifying Round
Manager Andy Leese commented:
"We were really pleased with the win, and the level of performance on Saturday. We played with a good intensity, and scored some well worked goals. Leatherhead came back in to the game when to be fair we should have been further ahead, but we defended well again under pressure in the last quarter of the game.
"Ash showed why he is one of the best around with 2 great stops to keep us in it, and the back 4 showed all their experience. It means we have a week to prepare for the FA Cup now without any distraction which is what we set out to do. Credit should go to the players again for picking up the challenges we set them after the defeat at Hayes.
"We have another big week ahead and go into it in great spirits and good form."
