Dulwich came out deserved winners in this FA Trophy Second Qualifying Round tie. The home side had the better of the opening exchanges and went on to take a 1-0 lead on 24 minutes, with Chesham protests that Darren Purse had been fouled in the build up falling on deaf ears. Some fine saves from the home 'keeper preserved Dulwich's lead until half time and with Taylor, Purse and Martin having picked up cautions, all of which the travelling faithful adjudged as harsh, Chesham had it all to do in the second half
A second Dulwich goal soon after the restart, followed by a fantastic strike which Ashlee Jones tipped, over gave the home side a cushion, which they added to with a third on 69 minutes. An afternoon that will not live long in the memory for the officials' performance was rounded off when a backpass was awarded for a ball that appeared to come off Darren Purse's thigh, from which the hosts made the final score 4-0. We wish Dulwich Hamlet every success in the next round of the Trophy and beyond, and for the remainder of their league season
Chesham Utd Manger Andy Leese commented:
"after the pride, the fall. I can only apologise to those who paid to travel yesterday. I cannot remember a more disappointing day in my time here than yesterday, and there have been some difficult days and nights. Dulwich deserved to win. They were superior in every department, they had more desire and simply outplayed and overpowered us.
"Notwithstanding the fourth goal which should never have been ( the referee apologized post match for awarding the free kick in error), we were still second best in most aspects of the game. We created very few opportunities, and didn’t heed the half time adjustments which cost us the game.
"For me, it was a more important game than last week in a competition we like to do well in.
"We need to move on. We have a vital six week period now, which could possibly define the season. I will make sure the players and management team know that, and we will see this week if we get the response and want to do better than last season"
