Wednesday 14th September
This Saturday 17th September the 1st XI travel to Sevenoaks Town for the Second Qualifying Round of the FA Cup.
Our hosts play at Step Five in the Southern Counties East Premier Division, and are currently placed fourteenth. However, The Oaks have only played three league games due to their cup exploits to date, and have between three and five games in hand over all the teams above them. Sevenoaks reached this Second Qualifying Round tie courtesy of a 1RQ victory over Lewes FC of the Ryman League Div One South. With the first match at Lewes all square at 0-0, Sevenoaks went a goal down at home in the replay before coming from behind and taking the tie 2-1 with a dramatic 85th minute headed winner. Chesham arrive at this tie courtesy of their 5-0 home 1RQ win over Saffron Walden Town
Sevenoaks' last match was a 3-1 victory at home to Crawley Down Gatwick in the FA Vase. For their part, Chesham have suffered recent dents in their promising start to the season with the controversial home defeat v Kings Lynn on Saturday being followed by a disappointing loss away at Hayes & Yeading on Tuesday, providing less than ideal preparation for this weekend's cup tie.
The Generals may start out as favourites on Saturday, considering both the gap between the two sides' respective leagues and Chesham's experience of their FA Cup 1st and 2nd Round exploits at Bristol Rovers and Bradford City last season. However that all counts for precisely nought when the whistle blows at three o clock. This is FA Cup football, it’s eleven v eleven and Chesham will have it all to do as Sevenoaks go all out to maximise home advantage and win through to 3RQ.
The Supporters Trust are taking a coach to the game. For those travelling independently the venue is Greatness Park, Mill Lane, Sevenoaks, Kent. Admission £7 (concessions £3 / £1). Hot food and bar will be available from Sevenoaks clubhouse from 12:30. There is free car parking at Greatness Park and the ground is only a few minutes off the M25, so is within very easy reach for travelling Chesham United supporters. You'll be in great company so let's see as many as possible there! See the forum for additional information for travelling supporters
Manager Andy Leese spoke to the CUFC website ahead of Saturday's kick off:
"We go into the FA cup this weekend looking to progress. Sevenoaks are a good side at the level they play and we will take nothing for granted. We have to prepare like we always do and ensure the mental approach is right like we did with Saffron Walden. I have no doubt we will need to be patient in our approach play and trust our match winners to show their qualities.
"Hopefully we will have some decent support as we look to finish a tough week on a high note"
