Wednesday 16th November
This Saturday the 1st XI head for Dorchester Town in the second of two journeys south this week. Our hosts are 19th with 19 points, eight places and six points behind Chesham having played four games more.
Last season Dorchester took all six points on offer. In a thrilling game at The Meadow that could have gone either way it was The Magpies who sealed a 4-3 victory with a stoppage time winner. At the return fixture in late January an error strewn game on a poor pitch and a lacklustre Chesham performance saw The Generals go down 2-1 on a completely forgettable afternoon. More recently when the two sides met at The Meadow earlier this season Chesham convincingly turned the tables, running out 3-0 winners with two Drew Roberts strikes being punctuated by a Sam Youngs header, in a match in which our opponents only mustered one worthwhile shot on goal.
Our hosts are enduring a lean spell at present having won only twice in their last eleven starts with their last three outings having all ending in defeat without - a Dorset Senior Cup penalty shoot-out apart - a goal being scored. However, their last outing, a 3-0 FA Trophy defeat at Basingstoke had all the hallmarks of being "one of those days" with numerous goal attempts coming to nought whilst the home side scored three times from four chances
For Chesham's part recent form has been mixed. The euphoria of the FA Cup First Round performance at Peterborough Utd was followed by the convincing dismantling of neighbouring Aylesbury in the County Cup. However there then came the disappointing exit from the FA Trophy at the hands of Dulwich Hamlet, followed by a 0-2 midweek reverse in the league at the hands of Frome Town. With Dorchester seeking to arrest their goal drought, and Chesham having fallen behind in the league due to recent cup activity, both teams need to win.
There is a coach travelling to Dorchester on Saturday 19th November departing The Meadow at 10.30am, fare Supporters Trust Members £15, Non Members £20. If you wish to travel please inform Brian McCarthy either on 01442 871750 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. For those travelling independently the venue is The Greene King Community Stadium, Weymouth Avenue, Dorchester, Dorset, DT1 2RY
Chesham Utd Manager Andy Leese commented:
"Dorchester is another test as they are looking for points to get their season moving.
"There will be changes to the squad with Adam suspended. Another long trip, but hope to see some support in Dorset!"
