Cinderford Town 0 Chesham Utd 1: Generals good value for away win

Saturday 22nd October

For the second week running Chesham won 1-0 in a game in which the result was more important than the performance, and also for the second week running Chesham's winner came from the same source. As against Potters Bar Town, Benji Crilley had beaten two men and was cutting into the box from the right when he was felled for a clear penalty, which Drew Roberts again converted to send Chesham in one up at half time

Chesham were largely in control and comfortable in a first half which could have seen a greater lead with more accurate finishing. The pattern continued after the restart, but The Generals found it hard to fashion clear cut opportunities against a packed defence. A young and spirited Cinderford side had pace, but were well marshalled by Chesham's experienced defence and Ashlee Jones was only called into serious action twice. Toby Little, on as a second half substitute, made his first appearance in seven games since being injured in FA Cup 2RQ v Sevenoaks

Random fact: Cinderford's ground is the highest (height above sea level) in England! A full match report will follow as usual via the 1st XI Fixtures and Results page. The team now prepare for Tuesday evening's home match v Kettering Town.

andy leeseManager Andy Leese commented on the win:

"An important 3 points on the road, albeit we were not totally convincing. We dominated the game, but our inability to finish the chances we create is why we are not looking convincing.

"We are giving ourselves a chance every time we play with our excellent defending, and that is what we set out to achieve in the summer. I am not sure we would have picked up all the points in these type of games last year, but the experience we have added gives us the platform and leadership we needed."
