This Saturday 22nd October the 1st XI travel to Cinderford Town.
Cinderford won the championship of Division One South and West last season, racking up 96 points and losing only four league matches in the process. However, there was turmoil at the club during the close season when the surprise revelation of an outstanding HMRC debt caused The Foresters to request that they remain in Division One on financial grounds. Other clubs affected by that decision then appealed to the FA who ruled that Cinderford must accept their promotion, but in the meantime Manager John Brough and the majority of the promotion-winning squad had left. Cinderford then appointed former players Alan Gough and Chris Burns as Joint Managers to rebuild the playing squad and take the club forwards into the SPL.
Our hosts are 24th with 7 points from 16 games, and have lost eight of their last nine, but Chesham will have taken note of the fact that all of Cinderford's points have been won at home. The Generals are currently 13th with 19 points from 12 games, but have games in hand due to recent cup activity. See league table here
In the two sides' most recent outings, whilst Chesham were winning through 1-0 v Potters Bar in the FA Cup on Saturday, Cinderford went down 3-1 in the league at St Neots and were dealt a further blow when centre half and captain Josh Nelmes was hospitalised with a supected broken nose and cheekbone after taking a boot to the face while heading clear during a goalmouth scramble. The Generals then did not have a midweek fixture, whilst Cinderford lost 2-0 at home to fellow early season strugglers Cirencester on Tuesday evening, following which Chris Burns stepped down. That was followed late on Thursday by news of the departure of Alan Gough: U18s Manager Brian Burke now takes the reins for Saturday's match
There is a coach for Cinderford Town departing The Meadow at 10.15am. Fare is £15 for Supporters Trust members, £20 for non members. If you are interested in travelling please contact Brian McCarthy on 07450334190 or email email@example.com. For those travelling independently the venue is The Causeway, Edge Hills Road, Cinderford, Gloucestershire, GL14 2QH
Manager Andy Leese commented:
"We get back to League action tomorrow at Cinderford. They are finding life tough this season, but despite changing their management team this week we expect a tough afternoon. They will be battling for every point, and we have to make sure we don’t have any hangover from this week.
"We will be judged on the League table this season. It is an important week of games for us as we look to keep progressing on all fronts. We will be without Adam tomorrow as he serves a suspension, but we are hopeful Toby will return after training and playing in the reserves this week.
"Hopefully see a few of you for the long trip tomorrow!"
