Chesham Utd v St Ives Town Tuesday 9th October: KO 19:45

Saturday 6th August

This Tuesday 9th August we are pleased to welcome supporters, players and officials of St Ives Town to the Meadow for this Evo-Stik Southern Premier League match, KO 19:45, our first home fixture of the 2016/17 season. We also welcome and thank our Match Sponsors Asprey Harris Insurance Consultants and our Match Ball Sponsor Brian McCarthy

St Ives are newly promoted to the Premier League, having finished fourth in last season's Central Division and then winning the play-off final v AFC Rushden & Diamonds 2-1 after extra time. Our visitors started life in the top flight on Saturday with a 1-1 draw at home to Stratford Town.

A Chesham team with a no of absentees due to injury and suspension went down to an opening day 3-1 defeat away v Redditch. The Generals shaded control of the first half but went in two down following defensive errors. Chesham got the score back to 2-1 with a 67th minute goal from Dave Pearce, and from then were in charge, but were hit on the counter in 90+2 stoppage time whilst chasing the equaliser. Debutant Benji Crilley, who was on the wrong end of an awful Redditch challenge for which the offender was rightly sent off, was voted Generals MoTM by the travelling support.

So, get down to The Meadow and support The Generals as they look to get the new season up and running with the first of two home games in five days. See you on Tuesday evening!

andy leeseManager Andy Leese commented:

"It was a disappointing opening to the season at the weekend. We need to use the two home games this week to get ourselves up and running.

"Errors cost us at Redditch. There was nothing between the teams until we made mistakes. We have been focusing really hard on ensuring we are difficult to play against, and for the opening half hour it looked that way. It should be the wake up call we need.

"We have to stick to what we have been doing this pre-season and tackle a confident St Ives team on Tuesday. They have the momentum of promotion and are used to winning games. They have added some useful players to the squad, and will play without fear. I am confident we will have everyone available barring Barry who is suspended"
