This Saturday 26th November we are pleased to welcome supporters, players and officials of Redditch Utd to The Meadow for this Evo-Stik Southern Premier League fixture.
Our visitors reached the play-offs last season, losing the semi-final to local rivals Leamington and are currently placed 8th with 32 points: two places and four points ahead of Chesham having played four games more. In the teams' most recent matches Chesham put in a solid performance to win 2-0 at home v Hitchin on Tuesday evening, whilst Redditch came away from Kettering with the points after an 87th minute winner gave them a 2-1 away victory
Results between The Generals and The Reds have been fifty-fifty in recent seasons, with three wins apiece in the last six starts. In the latest fixture between the two teams, played at Stratford on the opening day of the current season, Chesham had three centre halves unavailable aswell as losing Barry Hayles and Brett Longden to suspension. The Generals matched the home team in the first half but two defensive errors saw Redditch take a first-half advantage that ultimately proved decisive. After Redditch were reduced to ten men and Dave Pearce scored to halve the deficit Chesham dominated the rest of the game until a breakaway sealed it for the home side in stoppage time.
In the corresponding game at The Meadow last season Chesham secured an ultimately comfortable win. After a shaky start in which the visitors missed a golden chance to take the lead, Brad Wadkins scored for Chesham after nineteen minutes and The Generals grew in confidence thereafter. Dave Pearce then collected and drove past keeper Jose Veiga and into the far corner of the net for Chesham’s second, and a clear second half penalty was converted in style by Pearce to put Chesham 3-0 up.
This should be a keenly fought contest between two top half of the table teams. With the 1st XI's next two games after Saturday being back on the road again don't miss this opportunity to be at The Meadow, make some noise, and support the team!
Chesham Utd Manager Andy Leese commented ahead of Saturday's kick off:
"We look forward to the game tomorrow with Redditch as we look to continue the performance levels we showed on Tuesday. Another tough test if we want to make headway at the top end of the League.
"We should have Brad Wadkins back in the squad, but I doubt the injuries we suffered last week to Toby and Stephan will be ready to return. Brett Longden is fit again as we start another run of demanding games.
"Hope to see a decent crowd in tomorrow as we look to build some momentum!"
