On a day when the result was the most important thing an excellent and vocal crowd of 777 saw a game of few chances, and rather more cards and stoppages, in which Chesham ran out 1-0 winners courtesy of a 15th minute Drew Roberts penalty. With so much at stake the game was not a classic, but was toughly contested throughout

A well organised Potters Bar side were difficult to break down whilst Chesham never really found their rhythm, and at the end it was 10 v 10 with Adam Martin having walked for two yellow cards, followed by an opponent who collected a straight red. A full match report will follow as usual via the 1st XI Fixtures & Results page.

At the start of the day Chesham were one of eight Southern League sides still in the FA Cup but come the final whistle were the only team definitely through, the sole other survivors being Taunton Town of Div One South and West who held our National League South neighbours Hemel to a 0-0 draw and must now replay.

To reach the First Round Proper of the FA Cup is a tremendous achievement in itself for any club at this level, and to have done it two years running is nothing short of momentous. Congratulations to Andy Leese, Jon Meakes and the squad and also our commiserations to Potters Bar who gave it a great shot, competed from first to last, and on another day may have turned the tables: we wish them well for the remainder of their season

andy leeseManager Andy Leese commented:

"Another day for the club history books as we reached the 1st round proper of the FA Cup again. It was a tight affair as we anticipated, but it's all about the result on a day like that. We started the game well, but after we scored we never quite found the fluency in our game as we planned. Potters Bar sat in deep and made it hard for us. I didn't feel they offered too much threat in the last third until late in the game. It was an edgy last quarter as we went down to 10 men. We are defensively resilient this year and we saw it out to achieve a place in the live draw on Monday night".

"A fantastic achievement which is credit to the players desire and spirit when you consider we were seconds away from going out of the competition at Sevenoaks. We learnt last year that we need to embrace the achievement. Enjoy the profile it brings and lets see where it takes us. The atmosphere in the and the ground was reminiscent of last season's cup games. We certainly want more of that!"
