This Tuesday 22nd November we are pleased to welcome supporters, players and officials of Hitchin Town to The Meadow for this Evo-Stik Southern Premier League fixture. We also welcome and thank our Match sponsors Driving Force Chesham and our Match Ball Sponsors First Rate Exchange Services.
Our visitors, play-off semi-finalists last season having finished equal second on points, are again challenging strongly at the top end of the table and it has been three seasons since The Generals have won against The Canaries, a 2-1 victory at Top Field in February 2014.
Since then Chesham have lost three and drawn two, the most recent of those results being a 1-1 draw at Hitchin in the fourth fixture of the current season. On that evening a tough and battling performance by both teams could have gone either way, with Chesham under pressure for periods but finishing the stronger. The final three minutes saw The Generals virtually camped in the Hitchin box, and come within a whisker of snatching the win with a couple of very close calls. At the end it was probably the Hitchin fans who were more relieved to hear the whistle, however the draw was probably a fair result on the night between two strong teams.
Hitchin arrive at The Meadow in excellent form with seven wins and four draws from their last eleven starts (all competitions). Our visitors have not tasted defeat in the league since August 29th, but their three league defeats this season have all come on the road. For The Generals' part the team will be looking for an immediate reaction to three consecutive defeats, the most recent of those being Saturday's 3-2 reverse at Dorchester to a 92nd minute deflected strike.
Games between these two teams are normally entertaining and attacking affairs so get down to The Meadow for this, the 1st XI's first home match for four weeks, and make some noise for the team!
Chesham Utd Manager Andy Leese commented:
"The dip in form since Peterborough is startling and we have to try and avoid the same pattern we endured last season. The players know we have to respond this week if we want to get close to our targets.
"Hitchin will provide the strongest possible test as they are unbeaten in 14 games. We should have players fit and returning tonight to give us a lift. Hopefully we will get the support we have enjoyed recently in a very important part of the season.
